Original Film Trailer Description: For Led Zeppelin fanatics, this 1976 feature The Song Remains the Same is a treasure of searing live performances, particularly welcome in light of the sad scarcity of such visual material from the band's great decade. Despite the group's road weariness after a long tour, their final, three-night stand at Madison Square Garden in 1973 was full of the old power. Performances of "No Quarter," "Whole Lotta Love," "Black Dog," "Dazed and Confused," and "Stairway to Heaven" underscore Zep's charisma. Trouble is, you don't get an unbroken performance here. Viewers have to wade through a mishmash of documentary insight into the lives of Robert Plant, Jimmy Page, John Bonham, and John Paul Jones, as well as fantasy sequences supposedly inspired by the thoughts and fantasies of the band's individual members. It's mostly garish and silly, but there are some nice elements, especially insights into the late Bonham's life. From "Rock That" to "Devotion", their music groves hard - whether it is a funky tune or a jazzy piece with a couple of strong solo improvisations, there is always plenty of energy on the stage. What impresses the most about Earth, Wind & Fire: Live at Montreux, however, is how genuinely heartfelt and sincere the music is - nothing is forced, nothing is overdone, nothing is repetitive. Clarity is excellent and contrast levels great. The stage is not too big but there are giant screens and all sorts of different equipment on and around it that makes it look enormous. The camerawork is excellent - there are numerous close-ups of Dave, Martin, and occasionally Andy, as well as plenty of different 'looks' showing the crowd having a terrific time (there are some terrific shots during "Never Let Me Down Again"). The stage lighting is also fantastic. This being said, some extremely mild motion-judder occasionally creeps in, but the overall quality of the presentation is indeed excellent.
