This one is more reminiscent of his Country Rock leanings in Poco and in fact on some its a pity that some of his former bandmates weren`t helping our on Backing Vocals. It also doesn`t hurt the album`s accessibility that there seem to be one or two borrowed half riffs or half melodies. Not a criticism at all. No this is good old fashioned driving music, not heavy on solos or strongly lyrical but pleasant none the less. As for the songs the title track is something strait out of the Poco songbook, before the next track "Meant to be Together" dips into melancholy. "I got radio" is a song whose content has been covered by artists before and since (Roger McGuinn, Back from Rio) but is lifted above the norm by a great lead guitar part at the end played by the man himself. Playin that Rock n` Roll is yep you guessed it Rock n` Roll. "The Island" sounds like he`s been talking to Paul Cotton in terms of the subject matter. "Treat her Right" could be on Glenn Frey`s "No Fun Aloud" All this is sound Messina music but wait the best is yet to come on track 7 where he suddenly remembers that he`s a class act and delivers accordingly with "We got to get back" Moody beautiful lead guitar, highlighting the mans talent in a wistful, love tune. "Big Tease" is filler but is followed by "Can`t live without you" which includes the familiar riffs I mentioned at the start. Good LA soft rock! If you enjoy Poco from their Ghost Town/Inamorata period or Randy Meisner`s solo work then you may well enjoy this. ~Review by Mitchell Howard~ Reissue of his 1983 album. Jim Messina has had a long history with music, being a member of both Buffalo Springfield & Poco. He was one half of the mega-duo Loggins & Messina. As well he issued a few solo albums. GGB have fashioned a style that leader Gunnar Nyblad describes as, "Country music with a Michigan root. In other words, GGB's country rocks! With a young beat and a driving force, the honest storytelling grabs your attention while the music makes you smile. The energy of a live Grizzly Boys show explodes into the audience like a dose of adrenalin. Gunnar, who still farms the family apple and fruit orchards he's been working all his life, is the conductor and lyrical leader of this band of Michiganders who came together during stages of his young life. While attending Michigan State University for an agricultural degree, Gunnar introduced his childhood friend, bass player Rob Mason (Kent City, MI) to his college buddies, lead guitarist Shane Grehan (Alpena, MI); guitarist/keyboardist Chris Newberg (Rockford, MI); and drummer Joe Connolly (Rochester Hills, MI). Gunnar and Rob had sung together and been in a Blink 182-styled band when they were youngsters. But deep in his heart, Gunnar knew that he had, indeed, been country his whole life and he put together the band that could convey the sound fans around Michigan wanted to hear. The group debut was opening for Justin Moore in 2009 to a sold out crowd at The Intersection in Grand Rapids. The Intersection continued to book GGB, now playing around the state, for Nashville acts until GGB reached headline status. At the same time, they played WBCT's Birthday Bash and WYCD's Detroit Hoedown. By 2013, GGB played the inaugural Live Nation Faster Horses festival in Brooklyn, MI, and by 2015 were on the main stage. They also were playing major festivals around the country in Florida, Delaware, Minnesota, Nevada and the Deadwood Jam in South Dakota. GGB's release of the popular anthem "Standard American" on Average Joes Mud Digger 5 brought national awareness for the band, which had opened shows for the label's Colt Ford, as well as Florida Georgia Line, Kid Rock, Brantley Gilbert and many others. SiriusXM's The Highway started playing the song in June of 2014, along with local radio stations. It proved to be a hit, selling over 32,000 downloads in the US and Canada. Both the lyric and official video proved to be quite popular on YouTube, something the band had been known for. On April Fool Day, 2013, GGB put out a video that appeared as if they had performed "Could Be Me" in three trucks that travelled in front of the Google video street car. In 1999 Roosevelt recorded there first studio album "Generous",at Tony Atoreus "Famous" recording studios in there home town of Cardiff Wales UK. After progressively giging around the local circuit, they decided to take some time out and record the songs that had been the base of there recent live set. With a budget consisting of a couple of better paid live gigs, and a little help,they set about recording live and quickly over there budgeted couple of days.. hence,this giving the album a great freshness and timeless feel, with a live continuity of sound. The band returned to the live circuit, and the arduous task of self promotion,sending demos out to all who would listen. One of those demos landed on the desk of legendary Radio Two Presenter Bob Harris.. who did listen and for the next couple of weeks Bob aired the album on his Saturday night rock show and featured it on his best of British show, along side established artists such as David Grey, Robert Plant,Richard Thompson,to name but a few. The album was very well received and the band enjoyed some minor notoriety,and are still performing and recording to this day (albums" All In Good Time" "deluxe Interior"). But so often is the is the case the lack of good management and direction the band never could quit capitalised on the promotion that the legendary Mr Harris had kindly and most appreciatively given them with "Generous". But it still remains here today as one of those little lost gems.
