Artist: Kirk Whalum Title: Roundtrip Year Of Release: 2007 Label: Rendezvous Genre: Jazz / Smooth Jazz Quality: Mp3 / 320kbps Total Time: 56:38 min Total Size: 133 MB Tracklist ---------- 01. Courtney 02. Desperately 03. Ruby Ruby Ruby 04. Glow 05. The Wave 06. Big Ol' Shoes 07. Inside 08. In A Whisper 09. Roundtrip 10. Back In The Day 11. Afterthought Contemporary jazz saxophonist Kirk Whalum decided to take a little trip back in time on Roundtrip, back to the Memphis club scene that nurtured him early on, and to record some of his earliest compositions and ones written expressly for him with fresh ears as well as some new ones. Recording in four different places from Memphis to Los Angeles to New York to England, Whalum asked some old pals to pop in, like Earl Klugh, Jeff Golub, Gerald Albright, and Philippe Saisse, as well as some of his stalwart rocksteady bandmates such as Rex Rideout, drummer Michael White, bassist Melvin Davis, guitarist Mark Jaimes, and trumpeter James McMillan. There are a few other surprises as well, such as the appearance of Kim Fields on "In a Whisper," Shanice on "Inside," and sons Kyle, Hugh, and Kevin making appearances as well. Issued on his own Rendezvous Music imprint, this is Whalum at his most relaxed and celebratory. That said, Roundtrip has no less polish than anything recorded over his nearly 30-year career, and the label was his idea. It's a deeply personal offering that is celebratory in nature rather than merely reflective. The pairing with Klugh on "Ruby Ruby Ruby" is on the money. The keen melodic sensibilities both men possess complement one another perfectly, and the mix is skeletal enough to let Klugh's gorgeous guitar playing stand out. Whalum's tenor playing and the light, Latin-kissed composition are sparse and in the pocket. The reading of Nat Adderley, Jr.'s "The Wave" (the original is from 1988's And You Know That LP on Columbia) doesn't work quite so well in that Saisse does all the keyboards and programming and Whalum just blows over the top. The problem is that the synthetic handclaps add nothing; in fact, they detract from what otherwise might have been a nice funkier version of the tune. "Big 'Ol Shoes," which immediately follows, however, gets right down to it. Co-written by Whalum and Rideout, it's funky in all the right places, with one of those transcendent choruses that Whalum slips into his own tunes so often. The Grover Washington, Jr./Creed Taylor/Kudu feel is all over this one, with some killer keyboard work from Rideout and tasty guitars by Darrell Crooks. The vocal performance by Shanice on "Inside" is a beautiful urban soul and nearly gospel performance, and Whalum lets his vocalist get to it without getting in her way. Producer James McMillan (who co-wrote the cut) keeps his star back in the mix until it's time for him to blow a solo. Kim Fields speaks her track, and it works seamlessly. Rideout, who co-wrote the cut, produces it and takes the same approach with Whalum, though the saxophonist plays more fills, allowing his in-the-pocket sense of lyric improvisation to underscore the vocalist's lines. "Back in the Day" is a slick but fruitful hip-hop track with rapper Caleb tha Bridge and Albright on alto. This is positive hip-hop, with plenty of soul casting a reflective and nostalgic look at the past. Whalum and John Stoddart act as a backing chorus. It's innocent but not cloying, the groove is solid, and the saxophonists playfully entwine around one another and do call and response, ending up playing harmony in the solo break. The chorus has "single" written all over it if only the square urban and smooth jazz radio programmers would get out of their rut and test it on an actual audience. The set ends with another early Whalum composition in "Afterthought" from his debut album, Floppy Disk, in 1985. The lithe groove shimmers and swirls as White's backbeat kicks the tune just enough in contrast to the deep bassline of Alex Al and the vibes-like percussion of Kevin Ricard; Rideout's keyboards paint Whalum's backdrop brightly and he blows the tune out of memory, from that charmed place of having the gratitude and sheer lyric talent needed to look back. It's not hollow nostalgia here, but rather the quintessential taste to revisit this tune with so much soul over two decades later and play it like he means it only there's wisdom here, too: the tune means something a little different now, and his blowing near the cut's end is full of deep swelling emotion and smoking chops he didn't have in 1985. Anybody could play his old tunes, or replay them, or re-record a greatest-hits album, but Whalum didn't do that; he made something new and beautiful out of his past that points to an even brighter, more aesthetically satisfying future now that he -- instead of another record company controls it. Highly recommended.~Thom Jurek Personnel: Kirk Whalum (soprano saxophone, tenor saxophone, background vocals); Caleb tha Bridge (vocals, rap vocals); Kevin Whalum, Shanice Wilson (vocals); Kim "Blondielocks" Fields (spoken vocals); Mark Jaimes (guitar, guitars, bass guitar); Earl Klugh, Jeff Golub (guitar); Gerald Albright (alto saxophone); Peter Murray (piano, Fender Rhodes piano); Chris Carter (organ); Julian Crampton, Melvin Davis , Alex Al (bass guitar); Michael White , Elijah "DD" Holt (drums); Ekpe Abioto (percussion); Garry Goin, Darrell Crooks (guitar); James McMillan (trumpet, flugelhorn, piano, Fender Rhodes piano, programming); Philippe Saisse, Rex Rideout (keyboards, programming); John Stoddart (keyboards, background vocals); Simon Phillips (drums); Martin Ditcham, Kevin Ricard (percussion); Priscilla Jones-Campbell (background vocals). http://rapidgator.net/file/8cffd506ca729abbd820f7126252b689/KirkWhalumRoundtrip.rar.html http://ssh.tf/sxHGj6qFh/KirkWhalumRoundtrip.rar

Artist: Kenny Drew, Jr. & Larry Coryell Title: Duality Year Of Release: 2011 Label: Random Act Records Genre: Jazz Quality: Mp3 / 320kbps Total Time: 66:12 min Total Size: 150 MB Tracklist ---------- 01. Silver's Serenade 02. Farmer's Waltz 03. The Night Has a Thousand Eyes 04. Szabodar 05. A Silent War 06. Nostalgia in Times Square 07. Oil on Water 08. Goodbye Mr. Jones 09. Duality: Nenad's Sonata 10. Moanin' The jazz duo affords its parti[beeep]nts wonderful opportunities to stretch out creatively. Ideas, suggestions and negotiations of all musical kinds percolate back and forth. And, in the best of instances, they birth new nuggets for further development and exploration. At the same time, the duet framework can possibly limit, as competitive natures and stylistic dichotomies might overtake the mutual partnership and pose distraction. Duality, which features the marvelous talents of pianist Kenny Drew, Jr. and guitarist Larry Coryell, epitomizes the absolute best in piano-guitar duo playing. The improvisational banter, the interplay and feeding of ideas throughout this effort is pure listening joy. Drew and Coryell work so well together that interest never wanes, regardless of tempo, tune or musical genre. What emanates from the musical mind-melding of these the two superbly cooperative and inventive artists is jazz elegance, swing, and subtle, creative power. Horace Silver's "Silver's Serenade" sends the duo mission off on a neat mid-tempo foray. Whether guitar takes the melody, as Coryell's mellow playing does on this cut, or Drew's keyboard elsewhere, the result is a richness, a fullness easily giving an illusion of a larger musical unit. Both these fine players understand and brilliantly display the subtleties of accompanying a soloist. "Farmer's Waltz" lilts lightly, with Drew and Coryell stretching out and never straining. Drew's touch, as his ability to stretch an improvisational idea, is all taste, with technique never dominating musicality. Likewise, Coryell deploys masterful technical wizardry to grab an idea, run with it and share. What makes Duality so much fun is the respect that permeates it; this is no cutting contest. Drew, ever the technician, and Coryell, a true virtuoso, take snippets of ideas, and permutate and volley them back and forth. "The Night Has a Thousand Eyes" puts the duo in a fire-starter, up-tempo environment; both answer the bell, with ideas drawn from their respective, burning technical abilities. Each player contributes original compositions as well: Coryell with three; and Drew with two. There's occasional subtle humor and note play, too, with Drew quoting a comped "New York, New York" during Charles Mingus "Nostalgia in Times Square." Coryell's "Oil on Water" broods, and Drew's salute to Hank Jones, "Goodbye, Mr. Jones," swings. "Duality: Nenad's Sonata" sends up Coryell's acoustic and amplified guitars running rapid fragments and comping chords in a stellar multi-movement showcase of strum. Bobby Timmons' classic, "Moanin,'" gets a cool, swinging treatment, with both Drew and Coryell displaying marvelous, soulful statements. Duality is a prime example of first class musicianship and sublime improvisational partnership. Duo albums or that of any sized ensemble simply don't get more enjoyable than this. ~ Nicholas F.Mondello Personnel: Kenny Drew, Jr.: piano; Larry Coryell: guitar. http://rapidgator.net/file/4073404eadc90dd6e00a9aba3002a669/KennyDrewDuality.rar.html http://ssh.tf/B2977wmFd/KennyDrewDuality.rar

Artist: Kermit Ruffins Title: World On A String Year Of Release: 1992 Label: Justice Records Genre: Jazz / Vocal Jazz Quality: Mp3 / 320kbps Total Time: 41:23 min Total Size: 101 MB Tracklist ----------- 01. Monday Night In New Orleans 02. Honey Chile 03. I've Got The Wold On A String 04. Kermit's Second Line 05. Georgia On My Mind 06. Girl Of My Dreams 07. Rosetta 08. Happy Birthday 09. When It's Sleepy Time Down South 10. When My Dreamboat Comes Home 11. The Glory Of Love The music on this first solo effort from trumpeter Kermit Ruffins is so good-natured and joyous that one can mostly overlook its derivative nature. Ruffins clearly had a good time playing trumpet (and occasionally singing) on such numbers as "Monday Night In New Orleans," "Girl of My Dreams" and "When My Dreamboat Comes Home." Not everything works on the date: "Rosetta" is taken much too fast for the musicians; there are a few too many average vocals; Ruffins did not have that original a sound yet; and some of the performances are quite predictable. So, although pianist Ellis Marsalis, bassist Walter Payton and banjoist Danny Barker are in the band (along with some younger lesser-known players), this is only a slightly above average set of New Orleans jazz. ~ Scott Yanow Personnel: Kermit Ruffins (vocals, trumpet); Doreen Ketchens (clarinet); Lucien Barbarin (trombone); Anthony Lacen (tuba); Ellis Marsalis (piano); Danny Barker (banjo); Walter Payton (bass); Shannon Powell (drums); James Andrews (background vocals). http://rapidgator.net/file/0bb948d288b0664e3e8a8a3ee0e64ae5/KermitRuffinsString.rar.html http://ssh.tf/8lIp4AhFd/KermitRuffinsString.rar

Artist: Tony Williams Title: Young at Heart Year Of Release: 1996 Label: Columbia Genre: Jazz Quality: Mp3 / 320kbps Total Time: 69:23 min Total Size: 158 MB Tracklist ---------- 01. Promethean 02. Young At Heart 03. On Green Dolphin Street 04. Farewell To Dogma 05. How My Heart Sings 06. Fool On The Hill 07. Neptune : Fear Not 08. You And The Night And The Music 09. Body And Soul 10. This Here 11. Summer Me, Winter Me Drummer Tony Williams died suddenly, and tragically, in early 1997. His death struck hard, eliminating one of jazz rhythm's sharpest innovators since the 1950s. Williams first made his brilliance clear in the second great Miles Davis Quintet of the early 1960s. He whirled like mad later, especially with his own jazz-rock fusion trio Lifetime. In between, he created rhythmic vapor trails behind Miles and increased the wobbly rhythmic ratio with artists like Eric Dolphy. Sadly, in Young at Heart, we have his final recording. With Mulgrew Miller and Ira Coleman, Williams sounds as complex and hitting as ever. The tunes vary from standards ("On Green Dolphin Street" is the best here) to Williams's own tunes. Perhaps in honor of Williams, it sounds like the producer of Young miked Williams so he sounded louder, sometimes even domineering. But he was undoubtedly superb, and he mixes well with an unusually tough-toned Miller on the keys. --Andrew Bartlett http://rapidgator.net/file/3bec367d653602fca03c80b653e45f5b/TonyWilliamsYoungHeart.rar.html http://ssh.tf/m4klqFakg/TonyWilliamsYoungHeart.rar http://uploaded.net/file/oxskbbuk/TonyWilliamsYoungHeart.rar

Artist: Tim Warfield Title: A Sentimental Journey Year Of Release: 2010 Label: Criss Cross Genre: Jazz Quality: Mp3 / 320kbps Total Time: 59:51 min Total Size: 136 MB Tracklist ---------- 01. Sentimental Journey 02. I'll Be Seeing You 03. My Man 04. Crazy Rhythm 05. Speak Low 06. In a Sentimental Mood 07. Golden Earrings 08. Here's That Rainy Day Saxophonist Tim Warfield has been associated with the Wynton Marsalis/Lincoln Center post-Young Lions of mainstream jazz for quite some time. With A Sentimental Journey, he might be making inroads to breaking that mold with a collection of standards fortified by the B-3 organ of Pat Bianchi and given different shadings or flavors. With trumpeter Terrell Stafford as second-in-command, Warfield takes the effortless lead on most of these chestnuts, with primarily his tenor sax and a little soprano. There are three short but sweet songs, including a quaint tango/march version of "My Man" with Warfield playing a Sidney Bechet-toned soprano. The rest are long and involved jam-type workouts as Warfield's tenor is assertive and up-front. A slow, slinky, lugubrious take on "Sentimental Journey" and similarly steamy approach to the Brazilian-tinged "Speak Low" emphasize what is mostly a program of easy swing, ballads, blues, and bossas, with "Crazy Rhythm" the energetic exception. Drummer Byron "Wookie" Landham is the lone rhythmic instrument, and unlike his groove-oriented work with Joey DeFrancesco, he tones down the proceedings with taste and grace. Warfield is not so much distinctive as tasteful, not shattering barriers but playing enjoyable, straight-laced music. ~ Michael G.Nastos Personnel: Tim Warfield (soprano saxophone, tenor saxophone); Terell Stafford (trumpet, flugelhorn); Pat Bianchi (Hammond b-3 organ); Byron Landham (drums). http://rapidgator.net/file/ec28e46685792cf2b169ed40519fb81b/TimWarfieldJourney.rar.html http://ssh.tf/fNVYCv2kg/TimWarfieldJourney.rar http://uploaded.net/file/1n8rh6k3/TimWarfieldJourney.rar

Artist: Rhonda Lehman Title: Classic Love Songs Year Of Release: 2016 Label: Rhonda Lehman Genre: Jazz / Vocal Jazz Quality: Mp3 / 320kbps Total Time: 36:39 min Total Size: 101 MB Tracklist --------- 01. The Nearness Of You (4:18) 02. I Only Have Eyes For You (2:57) 03. Blue Skies (2:28) 04. Fly Me To The Moon (3:00) 05. What Are You Doing The Rest Of Your Life (4:50) 06. Night & Day (3:25) 07. You Make Me Feel So Young (2:46) If you love the songs of Frank Sinatra, you will love this collection of love songs. They're classic and timeless and wash your world in the colors of love. I cannot tell you how wonderful it is to be releasing an album done with my good friend; Joey Singer. I first met Joey when I was a student at Indiana University School of Music when I walked into the music lounge on the 4th floor of the Music Annex, asked if anyone there wanted to be my accompanist and Joey's hand went up. From that moment, a friendship began. I had no idea at the time just how amazing an accompanist he was, but it didn't take long to find out. After IU we went our separate ways. Joey went on to play for the likes of Ella Fitzgerald, Johnny Mathis, Toni Tennille, Mary J Blige, Debbie Renolds.. I married and raised 4 beautiful children and tried very hard to be a normal average mom. Singing took a back seat to more pressing matters. Then one day breast cancer was found. The thought that my life may well be over, put things into perspective. Life is much too brief. So. after the cancer treatments were through, I walked into the local recording studio and recorded a Christmas album - something my children could remember me by when I was gone. In the meantime, Joey & I had touched base occasionally. He would tell me of his wonderful life in music and I would listen. Joey & I had done so many styles of music together - classical, pop, showtunes, and vocal jazz. Joey can handle it all, but without question my favorite style is the music of Sinatra & his contemporaries. I love the freedom of those tunes. In a way this is a reunion album. I asked Joey if he would be willing to work with me; he said yes; we walked into the recording studio with song titles and lyrics and recorded what happened next. I don't know of anyone else that could do that, and I am so grateful that he did. These are all familiar tunes, but they are my versions of them - mine & Joey's. I hope you love them. And I hope they bring you closer to the one you love as you listen. http://rapidgator.net/file/669780170c914bef0116a100720c0870/RhondaLehmanLoveSongs.rar.html http://ssh.tf/4XsOY9R7g/RhondaLehmanLoveSongs.rar http://uploaded.net/file/te4qvwry/RhondaLehmanLoveSongs.rar

Artist: John Tchicai's Five Points Title: One Long Minute Year Of Release: 2008 Label: Nu Bop Genre: Jazz Quality: Mp3 / 320kbps Total Time: 39:31 min Total Size: 102 MB Tracklist --------- 01. Venus 02. Anxiety Disorder 03. Yojimbo 04. Glass Houses and Gift Horses 05. One Long Minute 06. Spectronomous 07. Parole Ambulante Saxophonist John Tchicai was best known for his time in New York during the height of the '60s free jazz explosion, but he actually spent the majority of his career advancing the cause of avant-garde jazz in Northern Europe. Tchicai was born April 28, 1936, in Copenhagen to a Danish mother and Congolese father; he began playing violin at age ten, switched to both clarinet and alto sax at 16, and focused on the latter at Denmark's Conservatory of Music. In the late '50s, Tchicai began making the rounds of the North European jazz scene, which was quick to pick up on the early innovations of the American avant-garde. In 1963, he moved to New York City to immerse himself in the epicenter of free jazz. He hooked up with Archie Shepp and Don Cherry, eventually co-founding the New York Contemporary Five with them; he was also a founding member of the New York Art Quartet with Roswell Rudd and Milford Graves. Tchicai also recorded with Albert Ayler (on New York Eye and Ear Control), the Jazz Composers Guild, and John Lennon (Life with the Lions), and most importantly appeared on John Coltrane's legendary free jazz landmark Ascension. After a whirlwind three years, Tchicai returned to Denmark in 1966 and founded a large workshop ensemble called Cadentia Nova Danica, which he led until 1971. Shortly thereafter, he cut back on performing to concentrate on teaching full-time. In 1977, he returned to the studio, leading a fairly steady series of recording dates into the '80s, when he switched to tenor sax and joined Pierre Dorge's New Jungle Orchestra. In 1990, Tchicai received a lifetime grant for jazz performance from the Danish Ministry of Culture; and the following year he relocated to California's Bay Area, where he and his keyboardist wife Margriet founded John Tchicai & the Archetypes and the John Tchicai Unit, which both recorded during the '90s. After the turn of the millennium he returned to Europe and moved to Southern France; in June 2012 Tchicai suffered a brain hemorrhage, and although he reportedly began physiotherapy, he died in Perpignan, France in October of that year. Artist: Donald Harrison, Ron Carter, Billy Cobham Title: Heroes Year Of Release: 2004 Label: Nagel Heyer Records Genre: Jazz Quality: Mp3 / 320kbps Total Time: 65:06 min Total Size: 151 MB Tracklist ---------- 01. Heroes 02. Blues for the new millennium 03. My Funny Valentine 04. One Of A Kind 05. Double Trouble 06. Receipt Please 07. Candlelight 08. Solar 09. Free Style 10. Iko Iko 11. Straight No Chaser Ron Carter, one of altoist Donald Harrison's heroes and the primary bassist on this recording, makes the point that Harrison comes from New Orleans, but doesn't insist that he does. Harrison approaches his tradition with a pure heart, and from his apprenticeship with Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers in the mid '80s through his own leadership in the '90s, he has evolved an historical idiom into an absolutely contemporary, individual style. The title track kicks things off in the searching, striving style of a Wayne Shorter composition, with Harrison's other hero, Billy Cobham, clicking away on his cymbals, and Harrison's tone a bit edgier than elsewhere, accentuating the song's feeling of pursuit. Nothing else in the trio format, or in duet with Carter, reaches this level of urgency. The order of the day is swing and hard bop, with touches of Charlie Parker in the "I Got Rhythm" chords of "Double Trouble" and the Monk-like "Blues for the New Millennium," where Harrison's horn sounds more like a soprano aimed at the snake in the basket. Carter's bass is the dominant supporting voice on Heroes, offering a beautifully tasteful extended solo on a duet version of "My Funny Valentine," where you find yourself singing the words along with Harrison's perfectly rendered lead, and on "Solar," where Carter establishes a rapid tempo and Harrison keeps joyous pace. On "Candlelight," the album's most impressive cut, Harrison caresses the keys gently and romantically, subtly shifting tempo as if he were approaching his date seated on the couch, first suavely relaxed, then impatient, then with his composure regained. Heroes closes with three "bonus tracks" featuring a different trio with Vicente Archer on bass and John Lamkin on drums. With these two, the beats are heavier and the bass lines funkier. Lamkin hits hard on "Free Style," he and Archer handle the second-line rhythms of "Iko Iko" deftly, and Harrison's alto is as warm and sweet as peppermint liqueur. I realize Carter and Cobham are the stars of the show, but these two tracks along with the funky dip of a final "Well You Needn't" leave me looking forward to Harrison's next genre-stretching offering with his usual bandmates. ~ Jeff Stockton https://www.allaboutjazz.com/heroes-donald-harrison-nagel-heyer-records-review-by-jeff-stockton.php Personnel: Vicente Archer: Bass; Billy Cobham: Drums; Donald Harrison: Alto Sax; John Lamkin: Drums; Ron Carter: Bass. http://rapidgator.net/file/d55b77d43ef378c1befac068d504f64d/DonaldHeroes.rar.html http://ssh.tf/POcbsbFJg/DonaldHeroes.rar http://uploaded.net/file/5ewq2g9o/DonaldHeroes.rar

Artist: Curtis Fuller Title: Down Home Year Of Release: 2012 Label: Capri Genre: Jazz Quality: Mp3 / 320kbps Total Time: 65:06 min Total Size: 147 MB Tracklist --------- 01. Down Home 02. Ladies Night 03. C Hip's Blues 04. Sadness And Soul 05. Nu Groove 06. Then I'll Be Tired Of You 07. Mr. L 08. Sweetness 09. Jonli Bercosta 10. The High Priest Curtis Fuller: trombone; Keith Oxman: tenor sax; Al Hood: trumpet, flugelhorn; Chip Stephens: piano; Ken Walker: bass; Todd Reid: drums. The trombone can be smoothly seductive, raucous, rasping or cheekily fruity by turn. Curtis Fuller is a master of the instrument, a veteran of six decades of top flight jazz who is still full of creativity as a player and writer. Featuring his regular sextet, Down Home is an absolutely delightful recording-a sophisticated collection of tunes performed with a real sense of joy. Fuller's place in jazz history was assured with his appearance on saxophonist John Coltrane's Blue Train (Blue Note, 1957), at the age of 22. Fuller's tone may have softened in the intervening decades and, in later years, his respiratory power has diminished somewhat, but he remains a player with a consummate command of the trombone and its various tones and textures. Above all, he can still swing-his sense of dynamics and his soulful approach to playing ensure that he continues to produce some fine music. Fuller contributes six tunes to Down Home, a selection which proves that his compositional ability is just as strong as his playing. "Down Home" has a joyful, swinging groove driven by Ken Walker's jaunty bass line; "Ladies Night" has something of a "Blue Train" feel to its opening refrain; and "Sweetness" is a gentle swinger featuring trumpeter Alan Hood's precise, muted, solo. "The High Priest" is an up-tempo, hard bop tune driven by Walker and drummer Todd Reid, who both play with invention; indeed, the whole sextet lets loose on this terrific, high-energy number. Pianist Chip Stephens' cheerful, mid-tempo "C Hip's Blues" features a raw-toned solo from Fuller; by contrast, the pianist's "Sadness And Soul" is a ballad whose mood is, as the title suggests, more melancholy and reflective, with Hood and tenor saxophonist Keith Oxman joining Fuller to deliver its graceful melody. Oxman's "Jonli Bercosta" is another up-tempo, hard bop swinger with strong ensemble playing and a standout solo from the saxophonist. While Fuller is a dominant presence on Down Home, the other musicians each add their own personalities to the music. This is a tight, cohesive, ensemble with a great feel for the music; Down Home wouldn't sound the same if even one of these players was absent. On Down Home, Fuller has a band and a body of work that stands comparison with almost any point in his long and illustrious career. ~Bruce Lindsay http://rapidgator.net/file/fbb628af87bd0d8ad90b6bb2f09301d6/CurtisFullerHome.rar.html http://ssh.tf/pWOwSTZfg/CurtisFullerHome.rar http://uploaded.net/file/cujvk500/CurtisFullerHome.rar

Artist: Rodney Whitaker Title: Children of the Light Year Of Release: 1996 Label: DIW Genre: Jazz Quality: Mp3 / 320kbps Total Time: 69:36 min Total Size: 159 MB Tracklist ---------- 01. Mandela's Muse 02. Broadway 03. One Silent Moment 04. On Green Dolphin Street 05. Woman Child 06. Mood Swings 07. (Queen) Roz 08. Children of the Light 09. Langman 10. El Morro 11. Cultural Warrior For his debut as leader, Rodney Whitaker takes center stage on several melodies and solos frequently. His playing is well-rounded in every respect, and he has a supple, sleek, strong tone. His core group for this outing consists of James Carter (tenor sax), Cassius Richmond (flute), Wallace Roney and Nicholas Payton (trumpet), Cyrus Chestnut (piano), Karriem Riggins and Gregory Hutchinson (drums), and Andrew Daniels (percussion); pianist Geri Allen and baritone saxophonist Alex Harding make cameo appearances. Three of the 11 tracks were penned by Whitaker the bass/percussion workout "Woman Child," the jungly "(Queen) Roz," and the crackling "Langman." Ken Cox's triumphant melody for Nelson Mandela, "Mandela's Mood," is a highlight, featuring bright melodies and Afro-Cuban underpinnings. Everyone solos on this piece, but it's Carter's histrionics that really provide the exclamation point. There are two hard boppers a version of "Broadway" featuring a path-clearing solo by Carter, and Richmond's "Mood Swings," which finds Carter and Roney acting like Wayne Shorter and Miles Davis. The title track features Payton's plaintive head statement and Chestnut's fervid solo. Whitaker's wife, Monzola, contributes the soft "One Silent Moment," while Roney lights things up for "On Dolphin Street." Allen waxes poetic beneath a bed of exotic, subtle rhythms on "El Morro," and the finale, "Cultural Warrior," is languid and solemn. Whitaker shows a grand diversity on this complete package of modern jazz. Highly recommended. ~ Michael G.Nastos Personnel: Baritone Saxophone - Alex Harding (tracks: 3); Bass - Rodney Whitaker; Drums - Gregory Hutchinson (tracks: 4-6, 9, 10), Karriem Riggins (tracks: 1-3, 7, 8, 11); Flute - Cassius Richmond (tracks: 1, 3, 10); Percussion - Andrew Daniels (tracks: 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 10); Piano - Cyrus Chestnut (tracks: 1-3, 6-9, 11), Geri Allen (tracks: 4, 10); Tenor Saxophone - James Carter (3) (tracks: 1-4, 6, 7, 9, 10); Trumpet - Nicholas Payton (tracks: 1, 2, 3, 7, 8), Wallace Roney (tracks: 4, 6, 9, 10) http://rapidgator.net/file/8a67faa9ee3d857de32305b20b61d646/RodneyWhitakerLight.rar.html http://ssh.tf/NqAhMuhhL/RodneyWhitakerLight.rar http://uploaded.net/file/h5ihmsqk/RodneyWhitakerLight.rar

The Way At 25 years old, Polly Gibbons is one of the most talked about young singer/songwriters in the UK - her nomination for a BBC Jazz Award is clear indication of her success, along with ongoing performances at some of the top UK venues and international festivals. Raised with 5 siblings on a musical Suffolk farm, people quickly became aware of her vocal talent. By the age of 5, Polly had already co-written her first song - a song which was selected from thousands to be recorded at Air Studios in London. Polly co-wrote her debut album, "What's The Real Reason" with Ola Onabule, who also produced it on his label, Rugged Ram Records. A highly anti[beeep]ted collection of lyrically refreshing songs, the album reflects Polly's main influences of jazz, soul and hip hop. Polly shimmers in song with an instinctive soulfulness and maturity that belies her years. Her understanding of heartfelt delivery in the tradition of the genre, are notched up a level by the quirky insight of her lyrics. Whilst you're grooving to the jazz tinged hip-hop beats of her tunes, you will also be taken in by the down to earth British humour in her words. Bursting at the seams with wit, incisive intellect and absolute honesty about Polly and the world she inhabits, her songs are delivered via one of the warmest sultriest voices you'll hear in a very long time. With an innate vocal versatility, Polly has been invited to record on various projects including a track with hip hop group Vinyl Dialect, on Wall of Sound's Bad Magic label. In addition, Polly has co-written and performed a song on a British Soul compilation album, 'Diggz Presents Random Soul' on Random Records. Artist: Pepper Adams Title: Hollywood Quintet Sessions Year Of Release: 2008 Label: Fresh Sound Genre: Jazz Quality: Mp3 / 320kbps Total Time: 76:07 min Total Size: 173 MB Tracklist ----------- 01. Muezzin' 02. Unforgettable 03. Baubles, Bangles and Beads 04. My One and Only Love 05. Freddie Froo 06. Minor Mishap 07. Blackout Blues 08. High Step 09. Zec 10. Alone Together 11. 5021 12. Four Funky Folk Music in general, jazz in particular, and notably baritone saxophonist Pepper Adams all had a breakthrough year in 1957. Given his New Star award in Down Beat magazine's critics poll and much acclaim working with the Stan Kenton Orchestra, Adams left Detroit that year for important recording sessions on both the East and West Coasts. Teamed here with musicians based in the Los Angeles area, Adams proved as adept at hard bop as with the cool school sound the California jazzmen had established. Two dates from the summer of 1957 (Pepper Adams Quintet for the Mode label and Critics' Choice from Pacific Jazz) feature drummer Mel Lewis on all the cuts, with help from pianists Carl Perkins or Jimmy Rowles, Kenton trumpeters Stu Williamson or Lee Katzman, bassist Leroy Vinnegar, and on the second assemblage fellow Detroiter bassist Doug Watkins. The result is a solid collection of standards and compositions from emerging Motor City jazzmen Tommy Flanagan, Barry Harris, Thad Jones, and Adams. The distinguished sound of the baritone makes for an intriguing partnership alongside the brass of Williamson or Katzman. Five tracks with the Perkins/Williamson combine produced the calypso to hard bop "Muezzin'," with a singing trumpet followed by baritone, and "Freddie Froo," a hard bopper based on the same batting order, both originals by the leader. A spry version of the usually mundane "Unforgettable," a frantic, wow factor-saturated take of "Baubles, Bangles and Beads," and the tender, deep, and mellow "My One and Only Love" round out the first session. Katzman plays very well, trumping his relatively little-known status on three of the next eight tracks. He's excellent taking the lead on Flanagan's now legendary "Minor Mishap," adds to the breezy cool of "High Step" from the pen of Harris, and assists the band in bright, inventive, and adroit 4/4 to 3/4 time changes during the Thad Jones number "5021." Rowles in particular consistently stands out for his inserted solo segments on "5021," and manhandles the other Thad Jones contribution, a furious flyer titled "Zec," in a way original boppers Charlie Parker and Miles Davis would be envious of. His piano leads are simply elegant and refined on two more originals written by Adams: on the bluesy "Four Funky Folk" (originally on the World Pacific LP Blowin' the Blues) and especially during his feature on "Blackout Blues." Of course, Mel Lewis is the consummate professional with every swinging note. But the star here is Adams, emerging with brimming confidence and a solid concept beyond his peers and influences, and exhibiting a style that perfectly reflects his highly intelligent, dry, quick-witted, and fluid personality. For fans and students of the big horn, this is a homework project, and a testament to one of the greatest players of all time on his instrument. Artist: Marquis Hill Title: The Way We Play Year Of Release: 2016 Label: Concord Jazz Genre: Jazz Quality: Mp3 / 320kbps Total Time: 46:02 min Total Size: 105 MB Tracklist ---------- 01. Straight, No Chaser 10. Beep Durple 11. Juan's Interlude 12. Smile Prior to winning the Thelonious Monk Institute's International Jazz Competition in 2014, trumpeter Marquis Hill was already a formidable presence on the Chicago jazz scene. An adroit improviser and educator, Hill had taken home several accolades, including his first place win in the 2013 Carmine Caruso International Jazz Trumpet Solo Competition. His Monk Institute performance merely cemented the notion that Hill was a jazz artist who'd arrived. As part of his prize for winning the Monk contest, he earned a record deal with the Concord label, and 2016's The Way We Play is the result. While the album is certainly a showcase for Hill's fluid talents as an improvisor, it also works to showcase his skills as a bandleader. As with his 2014 effort, Modern Flows EP, Vol. 1, The Way We Play finds Hill leading his Blacktet, a group of longtime collaborators including saxophonist Christopher McBride, vibraphonist Justin Thomas, drummer Makaya McCraven, and bassist Joshua Ramos. Thoughtfully organic and rife with a groove-oriented, hip-hop-informed style, the Blacktet is at once contemporary and steeped in modern jazz tradition. Essentially, Hill balances both of these strengths on The Way We Play, largely touching upon songs from the jazz canon re-arranged in his own fluid, soulfully articulated style. As if to playfully underline his Chicago spirit, Hill also re-creates the Chicago Bulls game-opening theme replete with vocalist Meagan McNeal introducing his band. He then moves through a set of well-curated covers including a sophisticated version of "My Foolish Heart," featuring vocalist Christie Dashiell and a kinetic take on Horace Silver's "Moon Rays," in which McCraven plays a frenzied drum style reminiscent of electronic drum and bass beats. Hill is a dynamic performer whose trumpet can be hushed and breathy one minute, and boldly clarion the next. Aesthetically, while he fits into the Freddie Hubbard mold with flashes of Wynton Marsalis and Clifford Brown, he's also a deeply rooted trumpeter with an array of influences, demonstrated here by his Afro-Cuban take on Donald Byrd's "Fly Little Bird Fly" and his choice to tackle Carmell Jones' knotty "Beep Durple." His technique can dazzle, as evidenced by his lithe squealing-at-the-clouds solo on Thelonious Monk's "Straight, No Chaser." However, he's also a canny romantic whose supple, burnished tone can pull you deeper into a melody as he does on his largely rubato take on the ballad "Polkadots and Moonbeams." Elsewhere, he delivers a languid take on fellow Chicagoan Herbie Hancock's "Maiden Voyage," and even makes room for incisive social commentary via a spoken word poem from writer Harold Green III on "The Way We Play/Minority." Ultimately, The Way We Play illustrates Hill's award-winning sound, a sound that should appeal broadly to listeners hungry for a stylish, subtly forward-thinking approach to post-bop jazz, and to those who simply enjoy a warmly delivered standard. ~ Matt Collar Personnel: Marquis Hill (trumpet, flugelhorn); Meagan McNeal, Christie Dashiell (vocals); Christopher McBride (alto saxophone); Vincent Gardner (trombone); Justin "Justefan" Thomas (vibraphone); Makaya McCraven (drums); Juan Pastor (percussion). http://rapidgator.net/file/a7547f2b0746bf4ad14ad34c933de8af/MarquisHillPlay.rar.html http://ssh.tf/LLblS6DLL/MarquisHillPlay.rar http://uploaded.net/file/swum9umh/MarquisHillPlay.rar

Little Girl Blue Chet Baker recorded at every opportunity during the last decade or so of his tragic life, with widely varying results due to his drug addiction. But this surprising duo session with pianist Paul Bley is one of his better efforts from this period, focusing primarily on standard ballads by top composers. Bley's playing in the mid-'80s usually was freer in nature, but he willingly plays more mainstream backing for the trumpeter. Baker's tone adds to the poignant air in a rather deliberate interpretation of "If I Should Lose You," with Bley playing beautiful, sparse chords behind him. The duo gels nicely in a midtempo setting of Sonny Rollins' "Pent-Up House," while Baker's "Skidadidlin'" is a low key, bluesy number. Baker sings "You Go to My Head" in a thoughtful manner. First issued on LP, the CD edition added a warm extended performance of Richard Rodgers' "Little Girl Blue" that obviously was omitted at first only due to time restrictions. ~ Ken Dryden Personnel: Piano - Paul Bley; Trumpet - Chet Baker; Vocals - Chet Baker (tracks: 2) http://rapidgator.net/file/4ea99a840cf961933eff2f3c909984bd/ChetDiane.rar.html http://ssh.tf/05mEX2QXL/ChetDiane.rar http://uploaded.net/file/encptold/ChetDiane.rar

Artist: Stephen Riley Title: Hart-Beat Year Of Release: 2012 Label: SteepleChase Genre: Jazz Quality: Mp3 / 320kbps Total Time: 60:13 min Total Size: 136 MB Tracklist ---------- 01. Just You Just Me 02. Isotope 03. Lonnie's Lament 04. When It's Sleepy Time Down South 05. Ba-Lue Bolivar Ba-Lues-Are 06. The End Of A Love Affair 07. Mr. Sandman 08. Black Narcissus 09. All Go'd Chillun Got Rhythm The tenor saxophone trio is one of the great, if somewhat underutilized lineups in jazz. Stephen Riley has made a study of the format and delivers a fine addition to a limited canon with Hart-beat. Eschewing piano and leaving the horn to carry the musical weight all by itself is an idea that was recorded by the great Sonny Rollins as early as Way Out West (Contemporary, 1957). That record set a very high standard that is rarely met, let alone exceeded. It is the Godfather of the format. One later effort that does come close is Joe Henderson's State of the Tenor (Blue Note 1985), a live recording from New York's Village Vanguard that delivered one of the definitive tenor performances of its decade. Where the Rollins date is snappy and melodic, Henderson's performance is looser, wandering a little more with his improvisations, leaving plenty of room for the bassist Ron Carter and drummer Al Foster. Hart-beat follows in the footsteps of the Henderson record, with loose, breathy interpretations of standards by pianist Thelonious Monk, saxophonist John Coltrane and, yes, Joe Henderson. Riley's sound is a little understated, relying on good construction and control, without ever screaming his horn. On this date it would be fair to call him a quiet, if energetic player. "Isotope" gets a quick statement of the melody before Neal Cane joins the fray with clean forward bass line. Riley takes his improvisations up a notch with each chorus, building a wonderfully sophisticated solo before laying out for the bass to take a turn. A less frequently played Monk classic, "Ba-Lue Bolivar Ba-Lues-Are," gets a similarly wandering treatment with equally good results. In de[beeep]hering Monk, Riley makes the critically important choice to internalize the melody into his improvisation instead of just playing over it. This kind of depth is the difference between an okay Monk interpretation and a really good one; this is a really good one. Special mention should be made of drummer Billy Hart, the most seasoned musician on the date. A veteran of Miles Davis' On the Corner (Columbia, 1972), Hart provides subtle, graceful rhythm with Riley's understated playing. Like everything else on this date, the drumming is very sophisticated. The other Henderson tune, "Black Narcissus" has Hart splashing his cymbals out behind the bass and horn, initially providing less beat and more aural soundscape before he picks up the rhythm on the ride with a rim tap. It's very sweet, delicate drumming. So does Hart-beat live up to the standards set by Henderson and Rollins? That's a tough call, given the iconic status of those efforts. In all fairness, those are almost impossibly high standards to meet. Hart- beat is, however, a really solid recording, with some noteworthy playing making it a worthy successor in a lineage of great tenor saxophone trio records. ~ Greg Simmons Personnel: Stephen Riley: tenor saxophone; Neal Cane: bass; Billy Hart: drums. http://rapidgator.net/file/efe7f6fa4b69a14da352bfe9bfdfba55/StephenRileyHart-Beat.rar.html ssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss http://ssh.tf/BXUFllkvp/StephenRileyHart-Beat.rar ssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss http://uploaded.net/file/0yc3mvl9/StephenRileyHart-Beat.rar

A Kiss To Build A Dream On Sheila Cooper is a talented singer who also plays alto, or is she actually a Lee Konitz-inspired altoist who also sings? On Tales of Love and Longing, she performs duets with veteran pianist Fritz Pauer that -- given her two talents -- seem like trios. In keeping with the CD's title, most of the music is taken at slow tempos and has lyrics dealing with some aspect of love. A happy change of pace is a medium-tempo instrumental version of "How Deep Is the Ocean?" that, after four straight slow ballads, really wakes up the CD. Other departures include Ornette Coleman's "Lonely Woman," Cooper's original "I Gravitate to You," and her unaccompanied alto statement on "Body and Soul." But in general this is a set of slow ballads, sung with an aching longing and very sincere feeling by a subtle singer who shows a great deal of promise. ~Scott Yanow http://rapidgator.net/file/f76be1de9ff9b1b4168b28ba115ef480/SheilaCooperLonging.rar.html ssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss http://ssh.tf/vqBsqoD2p/SheilaCooperLonging.rar ssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss http://uploaded.net/file/vy9693d2/SheilaCooperLonging.rar
