Answered How to be nice while instituting being an individual within an institution Requirements No healthcare experience, only having a body is a prerequisite! Description This course, written by self-described "Hospital Hippie," aims to encourage individuals to take control of their healthcare by adopting a proactive mindset and asking questions to better understand their options. This course emphasizes personal agency in healthcare, urging people to actively parti[beeep]te in their care instead of being passive observers.Key points include:• Agency: Take control of your health decisions, ask "why" until you understand, and break complex medical processes into simpler, manageable steps.• Health Navigation: Recognize that many diseases and health issues are influenced by habits. The analogy of "oars" is used to suggest that our decisions steer us either toward chaos or health.• Threshold Phenomenon: Entering or exiting a room can change energy dynamics. This concept is applied to healthcare settings, encouraging patients to write down their concerns and needs to better navigate medical environments.• Charting & Bureaucracy: In modern healthcare, documentation often takes precedence over personal interaction. This course encourages being understanding and kind to healthcare workers, as they are bound by rigid systems.• Depersonalization: Healthcare can feel dehumanizing due to institutional policies. This Hospital Hippie suggests overcoming this by personalizing care through advocating for oneself, knowing one's needs, and not being overwhelmed by the system.• Call to Action: This Hospital Hippie advocates for patient-led care and encourages self-advocacy, writing down questions, and demanding clear understanding. In conclusion, the course stresses self-empowerment, encouraging people to "ask, write, and be human" while navigating the healthcare system. Non-Maleficence Beneficence justice Requirements No prerequisites Description Medical ethics is a branch of ethics that deals with the moral principles and guidelines that govern healthcare practices and medical decision-making. It provides a framework to help healthcare professionals navigate complex moral issues that arise in patient care, research, and public health. These principles aim to protect patient rights, ensure fairness, and maintain trust between patients and healthcare providers.Key Principles of Medical Ethics:Autonomy: Respecting a patient's right to make their own healthcare decisions, even if the healthcare provider disagrees with those decisions. This includes informed consent, where patients must be given all necessary information to make voluntary decisions about their treatment.Beneficence: Acting in the best interest of the patient by promoting their well-being and providing beneficial treatments. Healthcare providers are expected to do good by improving the patient's health and quality of life.Non-Maleficence: The principle of "do no harm." Healthcare professionals must avoid causing harm to patients. This involves carefully weighing the risks and benefits of treatments to ensure that the benefits outweigh any potential harm.Justice: Ensuring fairness in medical care and the equitable distribution of healthcare resources. This principle emphasizes that patients should be treated equally and that care should not be influenced by factors such as race, gender, financial status, or social class.Confidentiality: Protecting patient privacy by ensuring that personal health information is kept confidential and only shared with those directly involved in the patient's care or when required by law.Veracity: Healthcare providers have an obligation to be honest with patients. This includes giving truthful information about diagnoses, treatments, and prognosis.Fidelity: Being loyal and faithful to the commitments made to patients, maintaining trust, and upholding the ethical standards of the medical profession.Applications of Medical Ethics:End-of-life care: Ethical dilemmas around euthanasia, palliative care, and respecting a patient's wishes when they want to refuse life-sustaining treatments.Informed consent: Ensuring that patients understand the risks, benefits, and alternatives of treatments before agreeing to them.Resource allocation: Deciding how to fairly distribute limited medical resources, such as organ transplants or critical care beds.Confidentiality issues: Balancing the need to maintain patient privacy with the potential need to disclose information for public health reasons (e.g., contagious diseases). Description IntroductionHello, everyone, and welcome to the Safety Artisan. I'm Simon, your host, and today we are going to be talking about health hazard analysis.Task 207: Health Hazard AnalysisThis is Task 207 in the Mil. standard, 882E approach, which is targeted for defense systems, but you will see it used elsewhere. The principles that we're going to talk about today are widely applicable. So, you could use this standard for other things if you wish.Topics for this SessionWe've got a big session today so I'm going to plough straight on. We're going to cover the purpose of the task; and the description; the task helpfully defines what a health hazard is; and says what health hazard analysis, or HHA, shall provide in terms of information. We talk about three specialist subjects: Hazardous materials or hazmat, ergonomics, and operating environment. Also, radiation is covered, another specialist area. Then we'll have some commentary from myself. Now the requirements of the standard of this task are so extensive that for the first time, I won't be quoting all of them, word for word. I've actually had to chop out some material, but I'll explain that when we come to it. We can work with that but it is quite a demanding task, as we'll see.Task PurposeLet's look at the task purpose. We are to perform and document a health hazard analysis to identify human health hazards and evaluate what it says, materials and processes using materials, etc, that might cause harm to people, and to propose measures to eliminate the hazards or reduce the associated risks. In many respects, it's a standard 882-type approach. We're going to do all the usual things. However, as we shall see it, we're going to do quite a lot more on this one.
