  1. Free Download Frances Oldham Kelsey, the FDA, and the Battle Against Thalidomide (Audiobook) English | ASIN: B0CQQ5SMYW | 2024 | 16 hours and 41 minutes | M4B@64 kbps | 476 MB Author: Cheryl Krasnick Warsh Narrator: Andrea Gallo In the early 1960s, Dr. Frances Oldham Kelsey of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration became one of the most celebrated women in America when she prevented a deadly sedative from entering the U.S. market. A Canadian-born pharmacologist and physician, Kelsey saved countless Americans from the devastating side effects of thalidomide, routinely given to pregnant women to prevent morning sickness. As the FDA medical officer charged with reviewing Merrell Pharmaceutical's application for approval in 1960-1961, Kelsey was unconvinced that there was sufficient evidence of the drug's efficacy and safety. Despite substantial pressure, she held her ground for nineteen months while the extent of the drug's worldwide damage became known-thousands of stillborn babies, as well as at least 10,000 children across forty-six countries born with severe deformities such as missing limbs, arms, and legs that resembled flippers, and improperly developed eyes, ears, and other organs. As a result of Kelsey's efforts, thalidomide was never sold in the United States. The incident led Congress to pass the 1962 Drug Amendment, which fundamentally changed drug regulation in America. Those regulations, still in force today, required pharmaceutical companies to conduct phased clinical trials, obtain informed consent from parti[beeep]nts in drug testing, and warn the FDA of adverse effects, and it granted the FDA important controls over prescription-drug advertising. One of a small minority of women to earn an advanced degree in science in the 1930s, Kelsey faced challenges that resonate with women scientists to this day. Revered by the public as a "good mother of science," she went on to act as a formidable gatekeeper against other suspect drugs, such as diesthylstilbestrol (DES) and laetrile. As part of the team that tested anti-malarial drugs on prisoner volunteers during World War II, she later was instrumental in the formulation of ethical protocols for drug testing on prisoners and the vulnerable, including the elderly and children. Yet behind the public adulation, she faced professional jealousies and glass ceilings, political interference with FDA's actions, and ongoing hostility from pharmaceutical industry officials. She was sustained and supported by family and friends, co-workers and mentors, and a lifetime commitment to good science. Based upon FDA archival records, private family papers, and interviews with family and colleagues, this biography highlights the efforts and legacy of a pioneering woman of science whose contributions are still influential today. 2. Electrical Engineering an Introduction 2e Schwarz Oldham English | Size: 107.28 MB (112,492,300 Bytes) Category: Engineering This comprehensive revision of a popular text helps non-electrical engineering majors--the future users, rather than the designers of electrical devices, systems, and machines--gain a conceptual understanding of electrical engineering. Early coverage of systems and an emphasis on an IC (integrated circuits) "building block" approach motivates non-majors. The text features integration of analog and digital technology with cutting-edge coverage of op-amps, feedback and analog systems. A section on SPICE, the leading computer-aided circuit analysis software, introduces students to computerized analysis of circuits. Chapter-end Applications capture student interest by relating material to contemporary topics such as automobile suspension systems, high-fidelity audio, and hand-held computers. My Friend (1:42) 13. Will the Circle Be Unbroken (3:35) Legendary ivory-tickler Spooner Oldham is synonymous with the Muscle Shoals sound. The southern soul pioneer famously backed the likes of Etta James, Jimmy Hughes, Wilson Pickett, Percy Sledge, Aretha Franklin, and many more, but his lone solo album, Pot Luck, finds Spooner in a rare role: front and center. Oldham moved west in the late '60s when the patronage of bands like The Stones and The Flying Burrito Brothers made southern soul the in-demand sound. He joined the house band at Hollywood's Producer's Workshop and was soon playing for The Lettermen and Liberace. While recording the latter, it was suggested that Oldham make his own album. "I don't really think I wanted it so much," Oldham says now. "I think it was shoved on me. We'd got all this stuff set up, and now what do we do?" Pot Luck is very much a record of two halves; Side A is an amalgamation of rarities penned with the likes of Dan Penn and Freddy Weller, while the B-side is a conceptual, seven-song medley covering some of the biggest hits Oldham played on, including "Cry Like A Baby," "Respect," and gospel standard "Will The Circle Be Unbroken." The sessions were largely unplanned. "We just went in," says collaborator Emory Gordy. "That's the best way Spooner works." In 1972, the album was released and quickly sank. Before long, the Producer's Workshop disbanded, too. Oldham carried on regardless, performing with The Everly Brothers, Bobby Womack, Gene Clark, Neil Young and-well, you name it. With this deluxe reissue of his solo LP, it's time for Oldham to get his own dues. "I don't think anybody, anywhere, at any time, has ever heard it," he says. "I'm just happy someone wants to hear it now." http://rapidgator.net/file/5419d0e92e86663b233869d156b16a4e/Luck_FLAC.rar.html http://ssh.tf/5nlTEc9f0/Luck_FLAC.rar http://uploaded.net/file/mxlfua7t/Luck_FLAC.rar
