This double album opens with an extract from his most recent blockbuster, Denis Villeneuve's Dune ('House Atreides'). A distinctly spiritual, guttural voice takes centre stage for this piece - one of the main gimmicks of the soundtrack as a whole. The first part of this double album proceeds with excerpts from other Hollywood highlights, including the impressive Wonder Woman Suite, where a powerful female chorus challenges clichés surrounding music in American action films. Long time fans will appreciate the extended suites from two Zimmer classics: Gladiator (featuring the voice of Lisa Gerrard) and Pirates of the Carribbean. The second disc features another of Zimmers triumphs, The Lion King, which won him an Oscar in 1994. The more minimalist (and somewhat liturgical) soundtrack to Christopher Nolan's Interstellar has pride of place on this album, alongside his robust soundtracks for The Last Samurai and The Dark Knight. Zimmer's sparkling reinvention of the famous James Bond theme is also worth a listen ('No Time To Die Suite'). This fine and interesting CD is the soundtrack of the movie Eu Tu Eles (Me You Them) and also a tribute from Gilberto Gil to Luiz Gonzaga, one of the most influential Brazilian artists during the 20th century. Gonzaga is widely known as the King of the Bai??o, and played a key role in developing and popularizing the different music styles of the Brazilian Northeast, such as bai??o, xote, and forr??. Very much true to rugged, unpolished sound of the original versions, yet managing to add his own unique and personal style, Gil interprets several Gonzaga classics such as "Assum Preto," "Asa Branca," "Juazeiro," and "Qui Nem Jil??." Gil also wrote a few songs of his own especially for this movie soundtrack, such as "As Pegadas do Amor" and the nice and mellow "Lamento Sertanejo." Gil also interprets songs by other bai??o artists, such as the excellent and vibrant "Esperando na Janela" (written by Manuca, Raimundinho do Acordeon, and Targino Gondim), which was a major hit in Brazil in 2000. This is one of Gil's best albums since the '70s and also a very authentic and down-to-earth tribute to the old masters of the popular music of the Brazilian Northeast region.
