Touching on subjects reflecting the city they love, the appropriately entitled album Take It to the Bridge! is a perfect example of tight, feel-good music. Guitarist John Lisi not only contributed to writing every song on the album, but also produced the piece of work himself at Graveyard Studios in New Orleans. What resulted is the homegrown blending of blues and funk the New Orleans guitarist is so famous for engineering. Kicking things off with a blues-driven stomper called "Chicken Fried Steak" in which Lisi sings of his hunger for "chicken on the bone," the album stays at a consistent tone, utilizing each member of the six-piece group throughout. A two-man horn section, as well as the extra-fl avorful vocals of Queen Pleshette, truly adds that extra bit of tastefulness that brings the album above those in the same category. Lisi also applies the lap steel guitar in songs like "I'll Make You An Offer" to again elevate the band's ingrained sense of creative instrumentation. The songs are varied, sometimes making you groove, and other times making you just want to lay back.
