As fine an example of funky jazz fusion and virtuoso bass guitar playing as you will ever hear. Bassist Victor Bailey returns with his strongest and most consistent effort to date,titled Slippin' N' Trippin'. Bailey states "on this record I wanted to feature more of my bass guitar than on my other cd's. I'm also a versatile keyboardist,vocalise a little, and play a little drums too". Featuring the hit song "Cupid/I've Loved You For A Long Time", this CD was released on 29 May, 2007 by American Beat. Review by Jason Ankeny of All Music Guode: With Love Trippin' the Spinners transitioned from a decade they helped define to a new decade dominated by the last days of disco and the emergence of rap--the presence of producer/arranger Michael Zager portends a full-blown paean to dancefloor sensibilities, but Zager wisely emphasizes the group's rapturous harmonies, creating a Spinners record for the Eighties instead of an Eighties record for the Spinners. But the songs are uniformly bland--it speaks volumes that the album's biggest hit was a medley, "Cupid/I've Loved You for a Long Time"--and not even the vocals can salvage duds like "Split Decision" and "Heavy on the Decision."
