It's a word that easily describes Louis Armstrong, Fats Waller, Cab Calloway and many others who reigned supreme during jazz' pre-bop era, but the more jazz moved in a generally intellectual direction in the 1950s, '60s, '70s and '80s -- the more jazz musicians sought to be associated with "high art" rather than pop culture -- the less fun jazz' image became. But the word "fun" is most definitely applicable on This Rhythm on My Mind, a Wycliffe Gordon/Jay Leonhart collaboration that also includes tenor saxmen Wayne Escoffery and Harry Allen (not to be confused with the hip-hop journalist) and percussionist Jim Saporito. Although trombonist Gordon and acoustic bassist Leonhart are primarily instrumentalists, this 2006 date is vocal-oriented; Gordon and Leonhart both contribute to the album's vocals, and their fondness for the vocal styles of Armstrong and Waller is hard to miss -- which is not to say that This Rhythm on My Mind has a totally pre-bebop mindset. Actually, this 56-minute CD is more bop than anything, and bop vocalists like Babs Gonzales and Jon Hendricks are an influence along with Armstrong and Waller. An album that was strictly pre-Charlie Parker in its approach would not include Eddie Harris' "Freedom Jazz Dance," which is a welcome part of the program along with material ranging from Gordon and Leonhart originals to Lester Young's "Lester Leaps In" and Duke Ellington's "Mood Indigo" (two well-known standards that came out of swing but have been used for bop and post-bop purposes time and time again). This Rhythm on My Mind is not the most essential disc that either Gordon and Leonhart have contributed to, but it's a consistently enjoyable and good-natured demonstration of the fact that jazz -- for all its complexity and intellectualism -- can still have fun. ~Alex Henderson http://rapidgator.net/file/0c7788052b6d8b7687b834841abf4a8a/WycliffeGordonMyMind.rar.html http://ssh.tf/dAVqm3edg/WycliffeGordonMyMind.rar http://uploaded.net/file/jq8vi8hu/WycliffeGordonMyMind.rar

Hello Pops (4:20) 2. Keyhole Blues (3:24) 3. Up A Lazy River (3:16) 4. Dream A Little Dream (Feat. Nancy Harms) (2:52) 5. I Cover The Waterfront (3:26) 6. Basin Street Blues (7:34) 7. Hello Brother (3:03) 14. Pops For President (3:09) 15. Hello Pops Reprise (2:24) Hello Pops is a project that simply extends a musical homage and Hello to my favorite and most influential hero! When deciding on the selections for this CD I chose songs that were poignant during various developmental stages of my personal as well as my musical life. The music of Louis Armstrong (Pops) was on the "hit parade" with me from day one of listening-from the Hot Fives and Sevens all the way through to the All Stars. From my first recording of "Keyhole Blues" (Hot Fives) to "Dream A Little Dream" (with Ella) to "Hello Brother" (All Stars) to "Black and Blue" (All Stars), I enjoyed each tune that Pops did with various groups and configurations. Pops was also an inspiration for the new compositions in this session. "Hello Pops" is my way of saying thanks to Louis Armstrong for what he did for me. If I could do that for 10 quadrillion, it wouldn't amount to what he did for me, is my direct sentiment and feeling about it all. "Pops for President" was inspired by a video clip of the All Stars with Louis singing "Black and Blue" to 100,000 Africans that were at war but called a truce just to attend his performance. What better candidate to bring world peace? Can you think of one? I can think of none!!! Pops touched EVERYBODY!!! Still brings tears to my eyes when I think about it. Come on folks, Vote Pops for Pres-i-dent!!! "Meatball 1, 2, 3," well, that's something that just came to me in the dressing room after a gig one night in Wisconsin. Sitting backstage after everyone had left the theatre, I picked up my trumpet and began to play what became this tune. Who knows why I was thinking about meatballs, but here it is in this offering as a song with a simple melody and me playing Trumpet (Meatball 1), Trombone (Meatball 2), and Tuba (Meatball 3). Pops used to write songs about food so I guess he and I have that in common, and that's just how my mind works sometimes. I hope you enjoy this CD as much as I have enjoyed putting it together. And one last thing, "Hello, Pops. Wycliffe Gordon here, saying 'Thank you!' once again for the great vibes you put in the universe!!!" Personnel for the album: Wycliffe Gordon on all featured solos on trumpet, trombone, sousaphone and vocals; Anat Cohen on reeds; Aaron Diehl on piano; Corcoran Holt on bass; Marion Felder on drums; Nancy Harms femaie vocals; Bria Skonberg and Emily Asher on trumpet and trombone supplemental. 3. Artist: Wycliffe Gordon Quintet Title: United Soul Experience Year Of Release: 2001 Label: Criss Cross Jazz Genre: Jazz Quality: FLAC (tracks) / MP3 Total Time: 01:01:58 Total Size: 340 MB / 142 MB Tracklist: 1. Get It! Get It! (7:38) 2. Karen's Contemplation (8:21) 3. In Flight (7:32) 4. Everyday (6:31) 5. Corey's Competition (9:03) 6. Periwinkle (10:32) 7. On the Spot (8:45) 8. Low Key Lightly (4:03) Trombonist Wycliffe Gordon encounters here four individualistic improvisers whom he had never met until a day-before-the-session rehearsal. Joined by now-a-days jazz greats, tenor saxophonist Seamus Blake, pianist David Kikoski, bassist Larry Grenadier and drummer Bill Stewart, the group transcends differences in sensibility, background and custom to create music that bespeaks the cohesion and empathy you'd expect to hear from a unit of long-standing. http://rapidgator.net/file/a087bb53093ea0f1523949aba6918498/WGQUSE.rar.html http://ssh.tf/s4O1IN9Sv/WGQUSE.rar https://bytewhale.com/zjnt635t2mvj/WGQUSE.rar http://rapidgator.net/file/ae0bc829eb9ea7b22d19171f559d2e8e/WGQUSE320.rar.html http://ssh.tf/wiVVDUKSv/WGQUSE320.rar https://bytewhale.com/97ae72sozv2z/WGQUSE320.rar
