Donald Devlin (Andrew Scott) jest ponurym mężczyzną, który mieszka w niewielkim Harburgh w Pensylwanii. Pracuje w zakładzie oczyszczania miasta jaki kierowca ciężarówki i cierpi na syndrom Aspergera. Na jego barkach spoczywa również wychowywanie córeczki Wendy (Christa Beth Campbell) - Donald robi wszystko, co w jego mocy, by zapewnić jej godne życie.
