Lata, 60. XX wieku. Alice Brunelle (Veerle Baetens) i Céline Greniot (Anne Coesens) mieszkają z rodzinami na idyllicznych przedmieściach Brukseli. Są najlepszymi przyjaciółkami, świetne relacje utrzymują także ich mężowie i dzieci. Mogłoby się wydawać, że ta zażyłość jest nie do podważenia. Pewnego dnia sielankę rujnuje niespodziewana tragedia. Syn Céline ginie w wypadku, a świadkiem tego zdarzenia jest Alice. Tak oto przyjaźń Brunelle'ów i Greniotów staje pod znakiem zapytania. Céline uważa bowiem, że Alice nie dała z siebie wszystkiego, próbując ratować jej syna, Alice zaś zaczyna obawiać się, że ze stron byłej przyjaciółki grozi jej niebezpieczeństwo.
