Your Redeemer (3:49) When world renowned bass player and producer Kenny Passarelli (Joe Walsh, Elton John, Hall & Oates, Stephen Stills, Dan Fogelberg, Otis Taylor) and Grammy winning engineer Clark Hagan (Chet Atkins, Ray Stevens) heard demos of Dr. Izzy's songs, it was clear that a CD had to be made. Grammy winner and legendary blues harp player James Cotton (Sonny Boy Williamson II, Howlin' Wolf, Muddy Waters, solo) heard some of the songs, and immediately said he would like to contribute. He is featured on the song "Matches Don't Burn Memories". Izzy is also joined by Telarc recording artist and trance blues originator Otis Taylor playing banjo on the song "Old Black Crow". The songs have been mixed by yet another Grammy winner, Tim Stroh at Madhouse Recorders. "Blind and Blues Bound" is the debut CD from the Dr. Izzy Band. Dr. Izzy is a singer.many fans already know that Dr. Izzy is also BLIND. "I always tell people 'There are so many ways too see', she says, "You can feel peoples' energy, discern their mood, through their voices and through the touch of their hand". Born with full vision in Texas, and growing up in rural New Mexico, she began to go blind at age nine. "Certain things are imbedded in my memory from when I could see. I remember watching my Grand-Aunt Verna cut fried chicken with a knife and fork, and being appalled that we ate fried chicken with our fingers. My dad stuck up for us, telling her we were from Texas, and that was how we ate fried chicken in Texas". She started singing in clubs and festivals at age 18 and did so for several years. When Izzy had to put music and singing on the back burner, she enrolled into college and received her Doctor of Chiropractic degree as a result. She met guitarist Robert Morrison in 2002 when she decided to return to singing. Two years later they were married, and soon started writing songs together. "I sing about very good things in my life, and some very bad things. A lot of what I've been through as a blind person has caused me to reflect on what it might have been like for other minorities throughout history." Dr. Izzy can relate to people's ambitions and aspirations being limited by the attempts of others. Everyday of her life she has experienced preconceived ideas about what a blind person can or cannot do. As delivered within the songs, she is a survivor in the strictest sense of the word. The songs deal with subjects such as alcoholism, abuse, cancer survival, and personal relationships. She has overcome quite a bit of adversity, and it is shown in her music. Izzy's amazing story is woven into songs that demand attention, both musically and lyrically. She is quick to point out that "Robert is a great guitar player and song writer. One of his best talents is finding ways to merge my words, lyrical phrases and musical ideas with his own, and turn them into really good songs". The many trials and tribulations along the way of Izzy's life is where the blues comes from in her music. This album is autobiographical; the good times and the bad times. Going Down Tonight [03:18] Quick to mention the Rolling Stones, Rob Thomas, and Garth Brooks as influences, Casey Donahew started out as a favorite on the Texas bar circuit, and thoes years of steady gigging paid off on a national level in 2009 when one of his self-released albums cracked the country Top 30 album chart in Billboard magazine. Born and raised in Burleson, Texas, in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, Donahew started playing local bars in 2002. His live show would evolve into a Springsteen-like event for Texas' younger bar crowd, maintaining a high energy level throughout an extra-long set, a set that would be broken up with playful diversions like country-rock covers of "Ice Ice Baby" or 50 Cent's "In da Club." Pam Minick, from Texas' famed club Billy Bob's, took notice, and when she hired Donahew for a headlining spot, the college-age crowd came with him. This demographic was a perfect fit for the singer's indie "Donahew-It-Yourself" attitude, and when he released the album Lost Days in 2005, he sold as many albums on the Internet as he did at shows. Mentioning all his favorite places in Fort Worth, a track from the album called "Stockyards" would become the theme for the city's Brahmas hockey franchise. With guitarist Brent Wall, bass player Steve Stone, and drummer Taz now acting as his band, his 2006 release would be simply titled The Casey Donahew Band. The rowdy live album Live-Raw-Real, In the Ville followed in 2008, and a year later, with many of his sales coming from digital download services, he broke into the Billboard charts with his album Moving On, which topped out at 28 on the Country Albums survey. Continuing with his strategy of focusing on his Texas/Oklahoma fan base and delivering a modest but steady promotional push, Donahew's star continued to rise, as 2011's Double-Wide Dream went to number ten on the Country Albums charts (and 32 on the Top 200 albums listing). 2013's StandOff rose even higher, becoming a number seven country hit. Donahew's following grew from a regional phenomenon to a nationwide success, and he expanded his touring circuit deeper into the south and west. He departed shortly thereafter to pursue a solo career, not only as a singer but also as a songwriter and producer. Hollister's first recorded effort as a solo act, the Erick Sermon/Redman collaboration "Weekend," was featured on the movie soundtrack The Ride and released as a single in 1998. His solo debut album, Ghetto Hymns, was issued in 1999. The autobiographical Chicago '85... The Movie followed a year later. The album eventually went gold thanks to the popularity of "One Woman Man." In 2002, Hollister left DreamWorks for Motown in search of some new energy. His third album, Things in the Game Done Changed appeared the same year and reflected Hollister's change in sound, although it didn't fare as well as his previous releases. Quickly returning to his original label, Hollister issued Real Talk in fall 2003. Work It (DJ Pony Remix) (3:15) The Puppini Sisters' fifth studio album, The High Life, is the trio's first with Emma Smith joining original members Marcella Puppini and Kate Mullins. Aside from new membership, the vocal group stays the course, offering more of their close-knit, three-part harmonies on versions of big-band classics, a couple of original songs, and swing era-inspired rearrangements of more contemporary hits. The trio holds a few surprises in its selections of the latter, such as a medley of the Sugarhill Gang's "Rapper's Delight" and Sia's "Chandelier," and a fluid cover of Missy Elliott's "Work It." Their take on "Rapper's Delight" works especially well, riding the original's natural swing. The bass-driven medley eases back and forth between the rap classic and 2014's "Chandelier" with scatting and melodic percussion, and proves to be a highlight of The High Life. Not as much fun is their David Bowie cover, a piano-led, rim-clicking arrangement of "Changes" that comes off more like an exercise than a reinvention. They're back in form on "Material Girls Medley," though, which includes pieces of several female-led, money-themed songs, including Meghan Trainor's "Dear Future Husband" and Rihanna's "Bitch Better Have My Money." All of the above are worked into the set list alongside expectedly capable versions '30s and '40s classics, such as Arlen-Mercer's "Ac-Cent-Tchu-Ate the Positive," and the even earlier Brazilian work with many versions including a film appearance by Carmen Miranda, "Tico Tico" (aka "Tico-Tico No Fuba"). Ultimately, as on past albums, the Puppini Sisters thrive on the original tunes, which were written with their distinct delivery in mind. Carl Trombonist Carl Fontana spent the early part of his career playing with a number of different big bands, including groups led by Lionel Hampton, Woody Herman, and Stan Kenton, the latter being the leader with whom he grew his reputation. Tiring of travel, he settled in Las Vegas playing commercial music for several decades (still taking time out for some brief tours with jazz bands), though he started leading jazz gigs and occasionally recording as a leader beginning in the '80s. This compilation comes from several different radio and television broadcasts plus some studio dates. The first set features Fontana leading a quintet with tenorist Vido Musso (a last-minute substitute for an injured Charlie Ventura). Fontana easily outshines Musso with his effortless but brief rapid-fire solo in "Lester Leaps In," while each man takes half of a ballad medley as an individual feature. Several numbers feature Fontana with members of the Kenton band plus pianist Henri Renaud. Fontana's intricate solo in Charlie Parker's "Scrapple from the Apple" is humorous at times, while Horace Silver's soulful "Buhaina" showcases trumpeter Dickie Mills and the trombonist. Fontana is the featured player in two selections with the Jimmy Cook Big Band, playing a powerful solo in "Polka Dots and Moonbeams" buoyed by Bill Holman's richly textured arrangement and adding some pep to an already breezy "Soon." The final two tracks showcase Fontana in concert with Kenton in Berlin playing two Bill Holman charts, including "Polka Dots and Moonbeams" and the arranger's own "Carl.""Polka Dots and Moonbeams" and the arranger's own "Carl."
