  1. Free Download Overcoming Ageism (HBR Women at Work Series) Author: Harvard Business Review Narrator: Amy Bernstein, Ann Sprinkle English | 2024 | ASIN: B0CYCNT3ZF | MP3@64 kbps | Duration: 4h 39m | 303 MB Everyone experiences age-related bias at some point in their careers, but for women the costs are greater. Sure, there are laws and organizational rules prohibiting age-related discrimination, but lived experience shows there's no "right age" to be a woman. Whether you're seen as too old or too young, ageism affects the opportunities you have access to, how others perceive you, and how much your contributions are valued. 2. English | ASIN: B0CNQ93DPD | 2024 | 13 hours and 4 minutes | M4B@128 kbps | 714 MB Author: Ian O'Connor Narrator: Charles Constant Four-time New York Times bestselling sportswriter Ian O'Connor takes on four-time NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers, delivering the definitive biography of the legendary yet mysterious quarterback who has astonished, befuddled, yet always captivated fans of America's #1 sport. Aaron Rodgers is among the two or three most talented players to ever hold the most important job in American team sports - quarterback. He also stands as the most mysterious and polarizing figure in the modern-day national pastime that is professional football. From his controversial Covid stance to his methods of spiritual awakening to his estrangement from his family to his high-profile romances to his devastating Achilles injury a mere four plays into his New York Jets career, Rodgers has long dominated the NFL's news cycle. At thirty-nine, in search of a challenge that would rejuvenate him, Rodgers divorced the iconic Green Bay Packers of Vince Lombardi fame for the Jets, who have not appeared in a Super Bowl since Neil Armstrong stepped on the moon. The trade made Rodgers the biggest story in the biggest league in the biggest market. By far. That story only got bigger when Rodgers shockingly went down on the night of 9/11, in front of a packed house that roared for him when he took the field carrying an American flag, and in front of the biggest Monday Night Football audience in ESPN history, peaking at more than 25 million viewers across all platforms. Rodgers then shocked the world by pulling off the fastest recorded comeback from an Achilles tear, returning to practice eleven weeks after surgery. Remarkably enough, he would have played again in the 2023 season, at age 40, had the Jets remained in playoff contention. Ian O'Connor uses hundreds of original interviews to pull back the curtain and answer the most penetrating questions about the league's most enigmatic player. Just like he did in his defining bios of Bill Belichick, Mike Krzyzewski, Derek Jeter, Jack Nicklaus, and Arnold Palmer, O'Connor reveals all sides of an all-time great and delivers a portrait of a complex man that will forever shape the way he is viewed. 3. Free Download Our New World of Adult Bullies: How to Spot Them * How to Stop Them (Audiobook) English | ASIN: B0CSZ9GGK8 | 2024 | 7 hours and 55 minutes | M4B@64 kbps | 226 MB Author: Bill Eddy Narrator: L.J. Ganser Our New World of Adult Bullies connects the dots to show how bullies at all levels of society follow the same predictable patterns of behavior. Bullies exist everywhere: families, workplaces, neighborhoods and communities, politics and government, and organizations of all types and sizes. And in a media landscape where conflict, crisis, chaos, and fear reign supreme, every day we see the worst behavior of celebrities, politicians, and other public figures who serve as role models. Winners and losers. Friends and enemies. Heroes and villains. People with high-conflict personalities think almost solely in these extremes. They regularly express unmanaged emotions, routinely blame others, and do harmful things that 90% of people would never do. Bullies share these characteristics, plus a drive to dominate or destroy their victims. But all bullies act in the same highly predictable patterns, regardless of their demographics and situation. By focusing on the ten hidden powers bullies employ-from their unrestrained nature and bully story to manipulating emotions and playing the victim-Bill Eddy unpacks the way bullies rely on primitive emotions and nonverbal behavior. He helps listeners spot these behaviors and offers practical actions before they become immobilized by helplessness, blame, and shame. 5. Free Download Laura Beers, Tanya Eby (Narrator), "Orwell's Ghosts: Wisdom and Warnings for the Twenty-First Century" English | ASIN: B0D5DP8V45 | 2024 | MP3@64 kbps | ~06:27:00 | 178 MB For the seventy-fifth anniversary of 1984, Laura Beers explores George Orwell's still-radical ideas and why they are critical today. George Orwell devoted his career to exposing social injustice and political duplicity, urging his readers to face hard truths about Western society and politics. Now, the uncanny parallels between the interwar era and our own-rising inequality, censorship, and challenges to traditional social hierarchies-make his writing even more of the moment. In Orwell's Ghosts, historian Laura Beers considers Orwell's full body of work-his six novels, three nonfiction works, as well as his brilliant essays-to examine what "Orwellian" means and to take it out of the hands of political pundits. She explores how Orwell's writing on free speech addresses the proliferation of "fake news," highlights his vivid critiques of capitalism, and, in contrast, analyzes his failure to understand feminism. Timely, wide-ranging, and thought-provoking, Orwell's Ghosts investigates how the writings of a lionized champion of truth and freedom can help us face the crises of modernity. 6. Free Download Origin Story: The Trials of Charles Darwin (Audiobook) English | ASIN: B0D31YXR2J | 2024 | 7 hours and 49 minutes | MP3@64 kbps | 216 MB Author: Howard Markel Narrator: Mike Cooper By early morning of June 30, 1860, a large crowd began to congregate in front of Oxford University's brand-new Museum of Natural History. The occasion was the annual meeting of the British Association for the Advancement of Science, and the subject of discussion was Charles Darwin's new treatise: fact or fiction? Darwin claimed to have solved "that mystery of mysteries," introducing a logical explanation of the origin of species-how they adapted, even transmogrified, through natural selection. At stake, on that summer's day of spirited debate, was the very foundation of modern biology, not to mention the future of the church. Without fear of exaggeration, Darwin's thesis would forever change our understanding of the life sciences and the natural world. And yet the author himself was nowhere to be found in the debate hall-instead, he was miles away, seeking respite from a spate of illnesses that had plagued him for much of his adult life. In Origin Story, medical historian Howard Markel recounts the two-year period (1858 to 1860) of Darwin's writing of On the Origin of Species through its spectacular success and controversy. Simultaneously, Markel delves into the mysterious health symptoms Darwin developed, combing the literature to emerge with a cogent diagnosis of a case that has long fascinated medical historians. 7. Free Download One Week to Change the World: An Oral History of the 1999 WTO Protests (Audiobook) English | June 18, 2024 | ASIN: B0CLX13XBK | M4B@64 kbps | 12h 9m | 357 MB Author: DW Gibson | Narrators: Cassandra Campbell, Danny Campbell, Jason Culp, Soneela Nankani, Leon Nixon, Ramón de Ocampo, Fred Sanders, Jackie Sanders The definitive history of Seattle's 1999 World Trade Organization protests, featuring over 100 original interviews and timed to the event's twenty-fifth anniversary. One week in late 1999, more than 50,000 people converged on Seattle. Their goal: to shut down the World Trade Organization conference and send a message that working-class people would not quietly accept the runaway economic globalization that threatened their livelihoods. Though their mission succeeded, it was not without blowback. Violent confrontations between police and protestors resulted in hundreds of arrests and millions of dollars in property damage. But the images of tear gas and smashed windows that flashed across TVs and newspapers were not an accurate representation of what actually happened that week. In the oral history One Week to Change the World, award-winning journalist DW Gibson pieces together a complex and compelling account of what really went down in Seattle, immersing you in the angst that defined the end of a millennium, complete with fight clubs and Y2K doomsday scenarios. In more than 100 original interviews with protestors, police, politicians, anarchists, artists, activists, union members, and many others, Gibson reconstructs the events in gripping detail; documents its antecedents and aftermath; and shows how so many of its themes remain just as pressing today, including the vitalness and difficulty of grassroots activism, the aspirations and limitations of globalization, the militarization of policing, the sensationalism of the media, and the undeniable power of the people. Timed to the 25th anniversary of the protests, this book is thrilling drama, an essential history, and a practical handbook for how to make one's voice heard. Free Download On the Edge: The Art of Risking Everything (Audiobook) English | ASIN: B0CR4FYC8R | 2024 | 15 hours and 5 minutes | M4B@64 kbps | 434 MB Author: Nate Silver Narrator: Nate Silver From the New York Times bestselling author, the definitive guide to our era of risk-and the players raising the stakes. In this timely and riveting new book, Silver investigates "the River," the community of like-minded people whose mastery of risk allows them to shape-and dominate-so much of modern life. These professional risk-takers-poker players and hedge fund managers, crypto true believers and blue-chip art collectors-can teach us much about navigating the uncertainty of the twenty-first century. By immersing himself in the worlds of Doyle Brunson, Peter Thiel, Sam Bankman-Fried, Sam Altman, and many others, Silver offers insight into a range of issues that affect us all, from the frontiers of finance to the future of AI. Most of us don't have traits commonly found in the River: high tolerance for risk, appreciation of uncertainty, affinity for numbers-paired with an instinctive distrust of conventional wisdom and a competitive drive so intense it can border on irrational. For those in the River, complexity is baked in, and the work is how to navigate it. People in the River have increasing amounts of wealth and power in our society, and understanding their mindset-and the flaws in their thinking-is key to understanding what drives technology and the global economy today. Taking us behind the scenes from casinos to venture capital firms, and from the FTX inner sanctum to meetings of the effective altruism movement, On the Edge is a deeply reported, all-access journey into a hidden world of power brokers and risk-takers. 9. Free Download On a MOVE: Philadelphia's Notorious Bombing and a Native Son's Lifelong Battle for Justice (Audiobook) English | ASIN: B0CCW7Z4HK | 2024 | 10 hours and 6 minutes | M4B@64 kbps | 289 MB Author: Mike Africa Jr., D. Watkins Narrator: Mike Africa Jr. The incredible story of MOVE, the revolutionary Black civil liberties group that Philadelphia police bombed in 1985, killing 11 civilians-by one of the few people born into the organization, raised during the bombing's tumultuous aftermath, and entrusted with repairing what was left of his family. Before police dropped a bomb on a residential neighborhood on May 13, 1985, few people outside Philadelphia were aware that a Black-led civil liberties organization had taken root there. Founded in 1972 by a charismatic ideologue called John Africa, MOVE's mission was to protect all forms of life from systemic oppression. They drew their ideology from the Black Panther Party and pre-dated animal and environmental rights groups like PETA and Earth First. MOVE emerged in an era when Black Philadelphians suffered under devastating policies brought by the long, doomed war in Vietnam, Mayor Frank Rizzo's overtly racist police surveillance, and, eventually, President Ronald Reagan's War on Drugs. MOVE members lived together in a collection of West Philadelphia row houses and took the surname Africa out of admiration for the group's founder. But in MOVE's lifestyle, city officials saw threats to their status quo. Their bombing of MOVE homes shocked the nation and made international news. Eleven people were killed, including five children. And the City of Brotherly Love became known as the City That Bombed Itself. Among the children most affected by the bombing was Mike Africa Jr. Born in jail following a police attack on MOVE that led to his parents' decades-long incarcerations, Mike was six years old and living with his grandmother when MOVE was bombed. In the ensuing years, Mike sought purpose in the ashes left behind. He began learning about the law as a teenager and became adept at speaking and inspiring public support with the help of other MOVE members. In 2018, at age 40, he finally succeeded in getting his parents released from prison. On a Move is one of the most unimaginable stories of injustice and resilience in recent American history. But it is not only one of tragedy. It is about coming-of-age for a young activist, the strong ties of family, and, against all odds, learning how to take indignities on the chin and to work within the very system that created them. At once a harrowing personal account and an impassioned examination of racism and police violence, On a Move testifies to the power of love and hope, in the face of astonishing wrongdoing. 11. Free Download Of Sound Mind: How Our Brain Constructs a Meaningful Sonic World (Audiobook) English | September 28, 2021 | ASIN: B09FYHB9KD | M4B@64 kbps | 9h 26m | 282 MB Author: Nina Kraus | Narrator: Elizabeth Wiley How sound leaves a fundamental imprint on who we ar Making sense of sound is one of the hardest jobs we ask our brains to do. In Of Sound Mind, Nina Kraus examines the partnership of sound and brain, showing for the first time that the processing of sound drives many of the brain's core functions. Our hearing is always on - we can't close our ears the way we close our eyes - and yet we can ignore sounds that are unimportant. We don't just hear; we engage with sounds. Kraus explores what goes on in our brains when we hear a word - or a chord, or a meow, or a screech. Our hearing brain, Kraus tells us, is vast. It interacts with what we know, with our emotions, with how we think, with our movements, and with our other senses. Auditory neurons make calculations at one-thousandth of a second; hearing is the speediest of our senses. Sound plays an unrecognized role in both healthy and hurting brains. Kraus explores the power of music for healing as well as the destructive power of noise on the nervous system. She traces what happens in the brain when we speak another language, have a language disorder, experience rhythm, listen to birdsong, or suffer a concussion. Kraus shows how our engagement with sound leaves a fundamental imprint on who we are. The sounds of our lives shape our brains, for better and for worse, and help us build the sonic world we live in. 12. Free Download Of Consolation: To Marcia, to Helvia, to Polybius (Audiobook) English | July 20, 2023 | ASIN: B0C9KSG6JR | M4B@128 kbps | 3h 58m | 220 MB Author: Seneca the Younger | Narrator: Mike Rogers These three 'Consolations', written by Seneca to his mother and two friends, have been described as 'the crowning achievement in the canon of 'consolation letters'. But sentimental they are not, for they emerge from the writer's deep-seated commitment to Stoicism, where individuals are exhorted to inhabit qualities of virtue, positivity, resilience, and indifference. This recording opens with Seneca's consolatory letter to Marcia, who, after three years, was still mourning the death of her son. He recognizes her exceptional personal qualities and what benefits she has brought to her family, having rescued her father's legacy as a historian following his death. He cites other noble Roman mothers who lost their sons, and enjoins her to adopt a more Stoic attitude of mind: we are all destined to die, he declares. The second letter is to his mother sent after he had been exiled to Corsica by Emperor Caligula. He counsels Helvia not to mourn his absence-not least because he himself does not feel grief at the prospect of his own exile. He acknowledges the trials of his mother during her life, remarking 'ill-fortune has given you no respite'. But her grief at the absence of her son may be put to one side in the knowledge that as he has 'never trusted in Fortune,' she can be comforted that her son is not discommoded. And history points to far harsher separations. The final letter is to Polybius, Emperor Claudius's Literary Secretary, who was mourning his brother. Written while in exile, Seneca's unwavering commitment to Stoic philosophy is again in evidence. One of Seneca's prin[beeep]l suggestions is for Polybius to distract himself from grief by an increasing involvement in work. These 'Consolations' have been widely admired from Classical times to the present, but are periodically questioned for their emphasis on a somewhat detached approach to grief and bereavement. Not all can manage imperturbability in such circumstances. Nevertheless, there is a steadiness and emotional calm in these missives, which Seneca himself displayed when ordered to commit suicide by Emperor Nero. Translation by Aubery Stewart. 15. Free Download Not Too Late: The Power of Pushing Limits at Any Age (Audiobook) English | ASIN: B0CKM534HM | 2024 | 9 hours and 58 minutes | M4B@64 kbps | 292 MB Author: Gwendolyn Bounds Narrator: Gwendolyn Bounds An award-winning journalist tells the inspiring story of her unlikely midlife journey to master the daunting sport of obstacle course racing-a powerful, science-based account of the change possible at any age when we push limits. In her midforties, Gwendolyn Bounds attended a dinner party where someone asked a little girl: "What do you want to be when you grow up?" It struck Bounds: In middle age, no one asks you that anymore. So she put the question to herself. The answer set her on an unexpected five-year path of transformation from an unathletic office executive glued to her screens to an age-group medalist and world championship competitor in obstacle course racing-a demanding military-style sport requiring speed, endurance, mobility, and strength. In Not Too Late, Bounds explores how tackling something new and hard upended her expectations for middle age-while also helping her reconcile regrets of her youth. Her story takes us from playgrounds and gyms, where Bounds relearns childhood movements (swinging from monkey bars, climbing a rope); to far-flung Spartan Race courses, where she strives to master running in difficult terrain and to conquer challenges such as scaling tall walls, crawling under barbed wire, and carrying heavy loads of rocks up mountains. Bounds's journey offers inspiration and a road map for anyone craving more out of life. Woven through Not Too Late are insights from scientists, longevity doctors, philosophers, elite athletes, and performance experts on how to reimagine our limits and who we think we are. Through Bounds's story, as she changes her body and mindset, we learn about humans' capacity to tap inner reserves, face fears, locate intrinsic motivation, and push boundaries at any life stage. Ultimately, one message prevails: When unleashing our full potential, age can be a secret weapon. 16. Free Download No Democracy Lasts Forever: How the Constitution Threatens the United States (Audiobook) English | ASIN: B0DB2YSDPN | 2024 | 7 hours and 23 minutes | M4B@64 kbps | 208 MB Author: Erwin Chemerinsky Narrator: Daniel Thomas May No Democracy Lasts Forever argues that the Constitution has become a threat to American democracy and must be dramatically changed or replaced if secession is to be avoided. Deeply troubled by the Constitution's inherent flaws, Erwin Chemerinsky, the renowned dean of Berkeley law school, came to the sobering conclusion that our nearly 250-year-old founding document is responsible for the crisis now facing American democracy. Pointing out that just fifteen of the 11,848 amendments proposed since 1789 have passed, Chemerinsky contends that the very nature of our polarization results from the Constitution's "bad bones," which have created a government that no longer works or has the confidence of the public. Yet political armageddon can still be avoided, Chemerinsky writes, if a new constitutional convention is empowered to replace the Constitution of 1787, much as the Founding Fathers replaced the outdated Articles of Confederation. If this isn't possible, Americans must give serious thought to forms of secession-including a United States structured like the European Union-based on a recognition that what divides us as a country is, in fact, greater than what unites us. 17. Free Download Nine Lies About Work: A Freethinking Leader's Guide to the Real World by Marcus Buckingham, Ashley Goodall, Gildan Media English | April 02, 2019 | ISBN: B07Q3J5MK3 | 8 hours and 53 minutes | MP3 128 Kbps | 488 Mb Your organization's culture is the key to its success. Strategic planning is essential. People's competencies should be measured and their weaknesses shored up. People crave feedback. These may sound like basic truths of our work lives today. But actually, they're lies. As Marcus Buckingham and Ashley Goodall show in this provocative, inspiring book, there are some big lies - distortions, faulty assumptions, wrong thinking - running through our organizational lives. But there are those who can get past the lies and discover what's real. These are freethinking leaders who recognize the power and beauty of our individual uniqueness, who know that emergent patterns are more valuable than received wisdom, and that evidence is more powerful than dogma. With engaging stories and incisive analysis, the authors reveal the essential truths that such freethinking leaders will recognize immediately: that it is the strength and cohesiveness of your team, not your company's culture, that matters most; that we need less focus on top-down planning and more on giving our people reliable, real-time intelligence; that rather than trying to align people's goals we should strive to align people's sense of purpose and meaning; that people don't want constant feedback, they want helpful attention. This is the real world of work. 23. Free Download Negotiating While Black: Be Who You Are to Get What You Want (Audiobook) English | ASIN: B0CKKPZ5GK | 2024 | 8 hours and 4 minutes | M4B@64 kbps | 228 MB Author: Damali Peterman Narrator: Damali Peterman A real-world, one-of-a-kind resource for anyone who has ever been underestimated, overlooked, or misunderstood at the negotiating table. There's no shortage of negotiation books that advise you to "get to yes," urge you to "never split the difference," and push you to "ask for more." But these one-size-fits-all negotiation techniques disregard the reality of our complex, multifaceted, multicultural world, where snap judgements are made based on perceived differences. When bias lies behind every negotiation, the only constant is you. Learn to leverage who you are-and gain the upperhand. Negotiating While Black is the indispensable guide that lawyer and mediator Damali Peterman wishes had existed earlier, as she navigated workplaces as the only Black woman, advocated for her children attending predominantly white schools, and mediated countless other bias-ridden settings. Drawing on these experiences together with decades of wisdom as a trained negotiator in high-stakes situations, Peterman has developed successful strategies notably absent from other top negotiation books-tactics that work for all people, no matter your identity. From the Foundational Five skills to the Negotiation Superpowers, these tried-and-true techniques will lift you to the next level of winning. Whether negotiating in the boardroom or in everyday life, Peterman shows how everything is potentially up for discussion-even when stakes (and emotions) are high. You can't control bias, but by being yourself, you actually have a better shot at getting what you want. Because when you arrive prepared and proud of who you are, you'll reap the rewards. 24. Free Download Nazi Movies as Propaganda Machine: How Goebbels Changed the German Film Industry Into an Ideological Weapon (Audiobook) English | ISBN: 9798882326165 | 2024 | 1 hour and 29 minutes | M4B@320 kbps | 204 MB Author: Davis Truman Narrator: James Clearence The German film industry transformed from a collection of independent studios into a division of the Nazi Party between 1933 and 1945. German film became a crucial component of the Nazi campaign to ideologically indoctrinate the German populace as part of the Ministry for Popular Enlightenment and Propaganda, led by Joseph Goebbels. However, the business kept up its prior commercial practices and made movies aimed at paying German consumers. Even though Goebbels worked hard to turn German cinema into an ideological weapon, the theater served as a popular consumer marketplace, and the various film tastes of German moviegoers continued to affect the kinds of films made. Therefore, filmmaking in Nazi Germany was influenced by popular taste and Goebbels' ideological objectives. This book will look at several movies that demonstrate Goebbel's evolving propaganda objectives and the changing preferences of the German audience for movies during the Nazi era. Box office statistics from the years before and after the start of World War II offer unique insight into German film consumption and serve to highlight the extent to which the general public supported the war in Germany.
