She made her entrance into the Danish music scene in 2001, during the first season of "Stjerne for en aften", the Danish edition of Star for a Night. She made it to the finals, with her rendition of Moloko's "Sing it back". The following year, she entered the Dansk Melodi Grand Prix, the Danish national pre-selection for the Eurovision Song Contest. Although her song "Vis mig hvem du er" performed strongly in the national final, receiving top marks from all televoting regions, it was a full-scale failure at the Eurovision Song Contest 2002, in its English version, "Tell Me Who You Are". Her song received a mere seven points, placing her last amongst the 24 parti[beeep]ting countries. The unforeseen Eurovision outcome was a blow to her previous achievements, but it did not make her give up her musical career. In 2003 she released her debut album called "Paradise". Assaf began to play the electric bass at age 17 and at 22 added the upright bass. In January 2001, Assaf moved to New York to explore the city's vast jazz scene. In 2002 Assaf received a scholarship for outstanding performance and ability from the New School University jazz program. Soon after, Assaf was chosen to represent the New School as part of the jazz outreach program. While at the New School Assaf has had the opportunity to study with Junior Mance, Reginald Workman, Jane Ira Bloom, Billy Harper, Doug Wiess, Johannes Weidenmueller, Hal Galper and Jimmy Owens. Since moving to New York Assaf has had the honor to work and share the band stand with some of today's best jazz musicians such as: Paquito D'rivera, Junior Mance, billy hart, Clarence Penn, Aaron Goldberg, sheila jordan, Kevin Mahogany, Carla Cook, Paula West, Vanessa Rubin, Wyclef Gordon, Evan Christopher, Jim Rotondi, Joe Magnarelli, Katty Farmer, Fabio Morgera and many more. Assaf also performed in New York City's most prestigious jazz clubs. This album demonstrates Luke's assured and mature writing, tackling issues across the emotional and social spectrum, from the gentle and fragile to the brave and challenging. His distinctive voice goes from strength to strength, with increasing range and emotional depth. There's a more contemporary feel to the songs, but they are firmly rooted in Luke's distinctive rootsy blues-infused sound, but it has a fuller feel than the previous releases. I'm Still Here (Gospel) Lucky Peterson's father was blues guitarist and singer James Peterson, a well-known regional musician who also owned the Governor's Inn, a premier blues nightclub in Buffalo, New York, which means Peterson grew up around his father's friends, who just happened to be touring and recording musicians like Jimmy Reed, Muddy Waters, and Bill Doggett, and he learned from all of them. He became fascinated with the Hammond B-3 organ as a young child, and by the time he was five, he'd proved to be a prodigy on it. Mentored by another of his father's friends, the great songwriter, bassist, arranger, and producer Willie Dixon, Peterson was still only five when he scored an R&B hit with the Dixon-produced "1-2-3-4," the novelty of it all landing him appearances on The Tonight Show, The Ed Sullivan Show, and others, and his debut album appeared in 1969. But Peterson had an exploratory nature, and while he could have had quite a career as a keyboard player, he picked up the guitar at the age of eight, and by the time he was a teen, he had developed an emotionally searing guitar style. He could have relaunched his career then, but instead he attended the Buffalo Academy of Performing Arts, and went out on the road as part of the touring bands of Etta James and Otis Rush, spent three years as Little Milton's keyboardist, another three years in Bobby "Blue" Bland's band, and backed jazz stars like Hank Crawford and Abbey Lincoln. He learned blues, jazz, soul, R&B, funk, and gospel, and by the time he made his re-debut as a bandleader with the Bob Greenlee-produced Lucky Strikes! in 1989, Peterson was a triple-threat multi-instrumentalist who managed to fuse R&B, jazz, gospel, funk, and rock with the blues. All of this leads up to this very personal and semi-autobiographical set, and his 18th album as a bandleader. The Son of a Bluesman, aside from being another fine set of Peterson's joyous fusion blues, is also the first of his albums that he has produced himself, and it has a warm, career-summing kind of feel to it. The title track, "The Son of a Bluesman," and the two different versions of the gospel-themed "I'm Still Here," give this album a personal and retrospective feel, as does the striking, and even silly "Joy," a straight-up family home recording featuring a rap interlude. But perhaps the best and most poignant track on an album full of standouts is the lovely instrumental "Nana Jarnell," dedicated to both Peterson's mother and his wife's mother, musician, singer, and songwriter Tamara Stovall-Peterson. Peterson's guitar lead on the track is a marvel of crying, elegantly balanced phrasing, almost horn-like or vocal-like, and it speaks and sings like the marvel it is. After several months deciding to head to North Carolina to put together a band and see the country. This first band, The Delta Drift, was "where I learned what it really was to be in a band. How to perform live, how to really play with other musicians in a way that excited me. And how to travel with a band, like a van full of sleep-deprived pirates." His travels eventually led him to Portland,OR and it's fruitful music scene. In 2013 he began work on a new project, Lowlight. Lowlight started as a recording project. "I had always wanted to go into the studio and make an album playing as many of the instruments as I could. It's probably hubris but also it's a way to stay mentally involved through the recording process and a way to develop songs and just have fun trying things. A way to keep things fresh. It can also be a humbling experience, like when I heard myself drumming. So I brought in a drummer, James Pearson, for a good chunk of the record."
