With this band, it all started when Steve placed an ad on the Berkshire live Website some 3 or so years ago..... But maybe the real start is from when the music impacted and inspired them. In Steve's case, that was in his early teens, with the blues inspired pop/rock groups of the sixties, but most potently with the arrival of Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Peter Green and a host of others - including from the US, the brilliant Mike Bloomfield. These great musicians - and others - showed the way back to the early 20th Century, into the melting pot of the Mississippi Delta, New Orleans and later Chicago to the roots of the blues and eventually what became Blues-Rock music. Steve went on to play in a number of bands who didn't quite set the world on fire - although it did get close at times. The Blues has been Steve's inspiration throughout his career, and his fretwork these days is a testimony to a lifetime's love of the genre and it's offspring Blues-Rock, as exemplified on the band's debut album Lookin' Back, Movin' On, on which Steve has written the lion's share of the tracks. Check out 'Little Miss Blue' for its' authentic Free feel, sleazy vocal and outstanding guitar solo, that exemplifies the band's approach. He has been a session guitarist, is a band leader and songwriter, and has an authentic feel for the blues; plus a jazz-rock edge that sets him apart. With the recent departure of Scott Hunter, the drum stool has been impressively filled by Bob Pearce, veteran of numerous well known blues, rock and country bands, most notably stints with Mick Ralphs of Mott the Hoople and Bad Company; plus Hogans Heroes, featuring Albert Lee and Jerry Hogan. This grounding along with gigging with his brother Dave put him in good stead to understand the requirements and needs of working alongside top musicians both in the studio and on the road. His experiences includes top studios and festivals in Wembley, Nashville, St Louis and Europe including the Albert Hall and Abbey Road as well as many local local pubs and clubs; from National tv and European tv to national and local Radio . Bob has had the pleasure of coping with these demands and as such, has truly experienced the highs and lows of the music business. For instance, at eight years old, he started on a drum set that he put together using old ice cream cans, cardboard boxes and pie plates. He also built his first electric guitar from a discarded entrance stair! And it kept on. He received his first real electric guitar at 10, a gift from his sister. He played it for almost 4 years with HIS tuning, as musical knowledge was lacking at the time! Indeed, Louis Janelle is one of those self-thaught people who persevered to major levels of skill in their art.In the course of his career, he has worked with more than 10 of the best known Blues groups. Since 10 years now, he is working on his solo projects , one of which was nominated for Â?Album of the YearÂ? at the 2006 Lys Blues Awards. He started with, among others, Mojo Blues (and Kevin-Mark), with Pat Loiselle & the Kitchen Shakers and with Steph Gagnon Blues Gang at Cafe Campus. He then founded the Gangsters of Love Duo with Gilles Bonenfant; in that group, believe it or not, he sang, played the guitar and the drums with his feet all at the same time. The transition from The Gangsters of Love to Louis Janelle Blues Band allowed him to concentrate on the guitar and benefit from a full rhythmic section. This group was made to feel very welcome at Blues Festivals and bars of the Province. Louis Janelle Blues Band's repertoire consists mostly of Lousiana Swamp Blues in the style of Lazy Lester, Slim Harpo, Lightnin' Slim, Guitar Gable, and others, also of Chicago Blues as played by Muddy Waters, Little Walter, Howlin' Wolf, Jimmy Reed and others. 'Dance Everybody' kicks off this great CD, and if you haven't seen the artwork cover, you would swear you were listening to an old blues artist from the past. Great guitar solos, solid drums, and just a plain fun song. 'Best Friend Blues' is the old style blues tune while 'Eloi's Blues' is reminiscent of the '50's instrumental tunes and 'If You Feel a Little Blue' will remind you of The Champs 'Tequila'. 'You Just Can't Keep a Good Man Down' is a great swing rhythm, showing off the versatile vocals of Janelle, 'Hoodoo Man Hop' is another instrumental offering with great a stand-up bass solo and bit of stolen 'Chatanooga Choo Choo'. 'Mind Free' features the vocals of Miche Love, offering the nitty gritty sound that shows off the band, while 'Mr. Groove' has ad-libs that make you feel like you are seeing Louis Janelle live and 'Fat Tire Beach Cruiser' once again is an instrumental tune with choppy guitar parts that sound a little like 'Happy, Happy Birthday Baby' by the Weavers. 'I Wanna Shout' shows off the gritty vocal of Janelle and 'I Wanna Get Drunk' gets back to the rock 'n' roll shuffle that he does so well while 'Out of Luck' is the shuffle sound he seems to be known for in his songwriting. 'I Won't Be Satisfied' is another Miche Love vocal offering, with a country/blues feel that really shows up great musicianship. The final track 'And You Left Me All Alone' once again brings you back to the blues. Great musicianship with Louis Janelle on vocal & guitar, Eloi Berholet on Drums & Perc, Mike Reilly on Upright & Electric Bass, Tony Almonte on Congas. On track 7 & 13 feature Miche Love on vocals with Eddy Blake Eaton on Upright Bass. And as the CD title says 'Dance Everybody' ! I wanted it to be a true Zen moment. I invited some of the best musicians in Houston to join me in this adventure. The simple concept for each session was; four of us walk into my garage studio without knowing what we were going to play. "Abandoning thoughts of yesterday or tomorrow and concentrating only on what happens NOW - truly living in the moment". In many of the sessions, the players had never met each other or ever played together. We wrote the songs on the spot - then turned on the recorder to capture the results. Streaming our parts is the best way to describe it. Each of the songs on this album took an average of two and a half hours to write and record. After the initial songs were written and recorded, I brought in Rick Thompson to play keys on all of them, Gary Sapone played Harmonica on two of the tunes, James Hoover replaced my bass on Uptown/Downtown, and Gideon Cheshire helped me fine tune the lyrics. I'm proud of the outcome of this project and I hope you enjoy listening as much as we enjoyed creating it.
